Do you have to rethink due to our silly motoring costs??

I dont really think we can compare like with like with their bread and butter cars though, hence i picked something I know the market for which is like for like.

You have a point, I wonder why cars are so expensive in Europe I assumed it was people from N Africa, E Europe going and buying them all?

Different culture. People in France for instance are generally happy to drive around in a 20yr old shed, people aren't really interested in the 'perceived' status they have.

If you are really into your cars, you buy a Porsche and leave it in the garage until the weekend. If you're not into the cars you drive a Citroen ZX diesel.

It gives you an idea - if anything, like I said, converting it 'like for like' makes it even more expensive.
well that's because it is.
you of all people should know imported cars are expensive in australia :p

motoring and 2nd hand cars are very cheap in the UK, be thankful

Out of interest what were you driving to get about 16mpg on a decent run?

For me our general car costs seem pretty cheap. Taking inflation into account it's cheaper than it was 10 years ago and it's possible to get reasonable cars for very little money.

An RS4, hence making the point about fuel consumption.

Any decent car costs a good few factors more in maintenance than road tax, it's silly to buy another car due to road tax costs.

If you do enough miles, then fuel costs can be a legitimate argument.

You're not taking into the average wage over there. You're comparing it directly using a bad exchange rate and not taking into account living costs.

Living costs-wise, US$ and £str can be treated as a one to one ratio, because earnings and living costs are about on a par if you just swap the symbols over...

Nah, no chance, it's about ~1.4 or so I reckon when you look at equivalent salaries over there and general living costs.

*edit*

Ah wait I think I see what you mean, that living costs are correspondingly more in $$s as the salaries are higher, in which case I agree :p

you wouldnt believe how much second hand cars in cyprus, when we went there i couldnt believe it!

go to Norway if you want to go OMGWTFBBQ

was reading a norwegian paper the other day and there was an advert for a new Hyundai iSuck

£80,000. yes, EIGHTY THOUSAND POUNDS for a hyundai :/

Norway? It is not a patch on Denmark!

Denmark has the highest car prices in the world, thanks to a registration tax that goes in to the realms of 180%, on top of a massive VAT rate.

An M3 Cabriolet in Denmark costs £200,000.

At the end of the day Slime you need to ask yourself is the extra costs worth the extra enjoyment to you.

Personally after having my RS4 for 3 weeks now I would most definitely say it is.
