^ Lotro - Siege of Mirkwood - Exp ^

Hmm, had a go this morning, did the first part of mirkwood and, well, it was frantic and completely nuts and really I dunno, didn't feel right. I don't know if the camps you had to attack were working as normal or with ludicrously sped up respawn due to amount of people they expected to be logged in.

Lots of minor changes like backgrounds in quest text, and crafting panels which all looks terrible and harder to read(due to lighter colour backgrounds). Its not bad, combat felt nippier, though I never had a problem with it anyway.

Very dissappointed in the fact that its basically a legendary weapon leveling expansion, as a hunter I'll get one new "skill" a port to mirkwood, whoopdedoo. A few classes get a new replacement skill, but most are minor upgrades and nothing remotely fancy, no need trait slots.

For an expansion, considering the additions in Moria, the size and complexity of it, leg weapons, more trait slots, complete change in class traiting system, this feels like a miniscule update with nothing to actually increase the usability of my character or new fun powers to use. More pointlessly easy solo stuff, some raid stuff thats too time intensive to get through all of, and thats about it.

I can't get excited about the game since almost every single fight, encounter, instance, mob has been made so mind numbingly easy its a joke. :(

Had the game remained difficult, with some really tough missions like on release, with more hard content added it would still be fun.

As i'd feared then. Shame, Turbine made a truely epic game but have totally failed to add to it with their expansions.

While the continuing dumbing down gets to me, I'll probably end up giving it a try anyway, Turbine do a great job of bringing Middle Earth to life, it's worth it just for the tourism aspect :)

yes because those rune keepers, sabre toothed pets and giant tame goats are very realistic, and thats just the start

I was talking about the world itself, the shire, moria, the misty mountains. All look incredible. I try not to think about the goats.

What little I've seen so far, they kind of got that very barren look to the tree's very well, the very first area is fairly plain, and the movement of mob's and respawn just feel totally wrong. But venture a little further and theres some really eerie and cool looking bits.

But really I haven't been excited enough to play it any more today :(

FIgured I'd go in and get the bug to hit 65 asap so I can get my new powers and stuff, but after looking around I realised, grinding up as fast as possible offers me the reward of, getting a port to Mirkwood, and my excitement and motivation to play drained in about 3 seconds flat.

I think i might wait a few days and play when people have moved on a bit, hopefully, though if the starter area gets less busy but the respawn rate is still increased, it will be impossible. When/if you play you'll see what I mean.

I picked up the lifetime sub, before they nerfed almost everything in the entire game to be stupidly easy, so I'll keep getting the expansions and do some basic stuff.

But I have to say I've been completely underwhelmed considering the size and depth of Moria.

Though you get the feeling Moria was probably part way done before Lotro's release, while Mirkwood was only started after Moria released so its far smaller. Problem being it cost the same to get but instead of real game improvement, depth and size, you get a free goat, shared bank which should have been free years ago and a stupid cloak, yay.

I guess most of the potential depth and size comes from the new instances and raid that have been added to provide another radiance tier ontop of what we already had in Moria. If you won't be experiencing them then I can well imagine it might seem a rather empty and pointless update.

So Skirmish is limited to a single companion, or do you earn more as you level up?

well you only get one soldier to take in with you, but that soldier can be traited with various skills and enhancements before you begin, ie you tailor the soldier to how you want ...

I suppose the beauty of the skirmish mode is for instant action, with both weapon and level xp gained throughout plus you can set 3 difficulty levels and make it solo or grouped to 12 ..

I havent even travelled to Mirkwood as of yet but it seems decent and fun from feedback ingame ... I'll report back on it later , so far so good !

It's hardly "Create and lead your own army of customised soldiers into battle" though, is it :(

well theoretically 12 freeps + 12 soldiers + 12 captains heralds is a small army :p !! ... tbh I dont fully understand the system or if its possible to summon more ...

Just travelled to the first part of Mirkwood and it looks fantastic, all gloomy with dark shadows that hide the locations of your enemies, pictures dont justify how good it looks tbh.

Just had a quick play, only level 42 atm so only been playing at the skirmishes, but they seem pretty fun and fairly challenging.

Concerned though that I'll be pretty much forced to rely on the herbalist(healer) soldier as in the few skirmishes i played being a champion I was only alive thanks to his healing, obviously this will be different in group skirmishes and maybe the other soldier classes will surprise me.

well this is the beauty of playing a captain (lvl 40) because I have the trusty cpt Herald and I have a skirmish soldier of which im currently running as a ranger type. Captains have a passive skill which enables us to 'shield-brother' a group member and when we attack with 'Inspire' it puts a healing DoT on the 'SB' plus we have 'Words of Courage' a spam heal DoT and on defeating an enemy a group heal+DoT..

I've ran most of the skirmishes solo with no trouble so far, so will now attempt them at a harder level !! if your on Laurelin /tell tyga :)

So this worth resubscribing for?

why did you stop playing ?

if your a casual MMo player then Lotro is still the best out there for story, content and maturity. Mines Of Moria changed the game quite dramatically, in my opinion for the better, with levelling a lot more casual and easier specially for the soloist. Theres tons of new content, legendary weapons , Skirmish battles , new instances, new zones etc etc etc

I have days and weeks were I dont login but having a lifetime sub really helps, it basically feels free to play and after 3years its the one MMo I always comeback to play.

I'm really tempted to resub. It's been a long time since I played, quit way before Moria was even heard of. The thing that really annoyed me though was the combat just felt "stiff". I know all MMO's use animations for the abilities of players but I hated LOTRO's ones, as they locked you into position until the animation finished and due to lag (even minimal amounts) it dragged you back a couple of feet when the server responded. It just didn't feel right at all. Is this still there?

Also, would you say the Lifetime Subscription is actually worth bothering with now? The lifetime subscription would basically mean I'm paying for at least 21 months of play time and only after that would it start being free. I'm guess I'm just not sure about whether the game would last another 2 years or more. I thought this wouldn't be available to me, but it's in my account options under "Single Payment" - guess it's due to being an old founder account or something.

But thats the thing Moria had more instances, by a huge amount than Mirkwood aswell as the zone being massive with a lot more going on, on top of HUGE changes to the game. This, has had smeg all to be honest in comparison. Also remember that between release and Moria we got, Evendim, Forochel and huge updates to well lots and lots and lots of zones(as well as a huge number of things made easier :( ). Between Moria and this there have been minor updates to bree and Ered Luin, and Lothlorien which has far far less to it than Evendim or Forochel.

Like I said, its very likely that while the engine was being polished the other teams got a lot of work done on other area's, but not enough time to actually finish them, so there was a huge amount of half done work that was able to be added. But after Moria it was really everything new was started from scratch so even though a similar timeframe between releases, time to work on them is much smaller.

But its still hugely dissappointing, one basic zone, 5 entire levels, no skills, no dramatic changes, hunter's still feel somewhat pointless less offense skills than a RK, no healing, inductions all over the shop and it feels like I'm doing less damage after the update. Personally I like the story and the non raid content but theres normally a little reward for leveling, now it feels like there isn't. Likewise Moria I felt more like I was getting back to how strong I was before than going on to 60 and getting hugely more powerful, meh.

Maybe some of the content is simply superb and I've not seen it yet, but the mass zerg rush didn't feel right at all in terms of the game, I was just walking through enemies as everyone else aggro'd them in large basis, and most people were just running around not fighting, though thats just the starter area of mirkwood. Hopefully skirmishes will be fun and have decent rewards, I forgot to check the reward vendors.
