Stick LEDs on the E39 and then take then off the E60 only to put them on on the facelift?

Fair enough the technology didn't exist back in 1996, but it was introduced on the facelift, so why not carry it on in the E60!

I assume it gives them something else to do when they do an LCI. The new model always looks newer regardless, sticking LEDs on the back just give it an edge to make the facelift worthwhile.

Same as the way that they use Orange indicators, then go to clears.

So people who bought E60's in 2003/2004/2005 would have a reason to buy another one all over again when they facelifted it.

They're trolling us.

Bit silly if you ask me, its like they intentionally don't produce the best car until half way through the cycle. How many people actually sell their launch car to get a "LCI"?

I think its daft as well. Like the farce that is climate control.

E39 5 Series: Dual zone digital climate
E60 5 Series: Crappy twirly knob no digital climate
F10 5 Series: Dual zone digital climate

E36 3 Series: Dual zone digital climate
E46 3 Series: Single zone digital climate
E90 3 Series: Dual zone digital climate

Also LED rear lights appeared in 2003 on E46 Coupe. And were then NOT present on the 2005- E90 saloon

Or the bit where they introduce CELIS LED rear lights and Angel Eyes on the facelift E39 in 2000 yet the brand new X5, also launched here in 2000, came with crappy prefacelift E39 style lights and didnt get Angel Eyes until 2003

Another thing I noticed, might be obvious to everyone, but the lower grill follows quite a simple formula.

They do some great stuff don't they.

I particularly like the reliability modification to the E39 rear cupholders on the facelift.

what, removing them? :p

That looks like BMW allowed some pratt of an accountant to get involved in car design requirements. It's exactly the type of thing that killed the UK car industry (well actually UK industry, not just the cars).

They changed the boot completely on the E60 LCI. Rofl.

Also, I prefer the climate in the E60 over the E39. It is digital in that its computer controlled. It just doesn't have an ageing 80's display to proove it :p

This is all, of course, just another reason why I really want to hold on chopping mine in, until the F10 LCI is out and about.

You mean the same sort of display thats back for the E90 and the F10?

Twirly knobs are, if anything, the ageing part. It was a cost cutting measure and nothing more.

Eh? The gubbins behind the units is the same it's only how they are controlled that is different. Its far cheaper to display numbers in a digital format accessed via a toggle button on a cheap screen than it is to produce circular, full rotary, ratchet, push active and autosensing controls. tbh

The F10 is still rotary controlled, sorry, "twirly knobbed" it just shows the numbers on the screen rather than round the control. Big whoop.

Twirely knobs are the sort of thing you get on a 1998 Citroen Xsara. Digital climate displays are the way most decent cars go, and the way BMW were going until they had a small blip with the E60 they've now sorted out again :)
