is time lapse and stop motion the same ?

looking at this

http://www.vimeo.com/7857654

and was wondering if this is the same as stop motion,, just take a photo every so many seconds apart and then put them all together

or is it video that has been sped up? (sped, speeded?) or just recorded at less fps ?

I would say that a video instead of taking shots.

Stop motion is were you take a photo every 10 seconds (random time) and put them together into a movie.

Time laspe is were you would say place a video camera on a city sky line for say 6 hours and watch the time go by, and then speed it up when its being edited.

I could be wrong.

I would say they're the same result but from different sources and different purposes.

Time lapse uses a fixed interval between frames to show how the subject changes over time.

Stop motion on the other hand only fixes the final frame rate - it may take a minute to set up the first frame then ten seconds for the next, then another minute etc.
