American Sports

I like the layout and colour scheme. It is heavy on txt though with no images for the stories you write.

Not really into american sports so ive only just glanced at your website but figured no harm in giving an opinion on layout. I very much like it but agree some pictures to break up the text would make it seem more friendly too read.

I agree with you guys that it's a bit txt heavy. the reason for not having pictures is a legal issue. You can get in much trouble if you use copyrighted images, which to be honest i don't want the hassle of.

I'll get some more videos up there when i can to break things up.

Anyother comments would be great.

Oh and Merry Xams guys !

Merry Xams to you too! :D

Also I was interested in this, being a fan of the NHL.

The NHL has a salary cap like no other in American sports. Instead of contract counting against the cap in equal instalments like in the NFL or MLB, if a player is paid $12 million this year and $15 million next year, it is his yearly salary which counts towards the cap, the NHL salary cap allows the average salary of a contract to count against the cap.

his means that a team can offer a 10-plus year deal and frontload the contract so that the player earns most of his money is the first few years of the contract. By adding extra years to the contract at the league minimum means teams can drastically reduce the average salary of the contract. Take the contract the Boston Bruins just gave Marc Savard, it is weighted like this:

2010-11: $7 million
2011-12: $7 million
2012-13: $6.5 million
2013-14: $5 million

Then there is a huge drop off in the final three years of the contract:

2014-15: $1.5 million
2015-16: $525,000
2016-17: $525,000

It's interesting that you highlight that because there are a fair amount of NHL fans who don't fully understand the salary cap.

I don't see the problem to be honest, The hockey clubs are not gaining an advantage of any sort because all of the clubs can do this. Also, if a skater decides that he is happy earning $15,000,000 one year and then $500,000 the next year that's up to them. Ohhh, and, Go Canes Go! :D

Well thr problem comes when the lesser teams can't sign any of the stars. The bigger teams can offer more money and just spread it over a long period of time and make the hit against the salary cap manageable and still have space for another player.

So you sign Ovechkin to a $$$$ contract spread it over so many years to make it average out at $5 mil a year. Then with the excess space they go do the same with Crosby and get two superstars under the cap.

A team like the Coyotes just can't do this, one cos they suck and no one want's to go there and two they just don't have the money for it.

Go Bruins Go :D

Bruins! :p

I see what you're saying but it's interesting because I thought the salary cap was brought in to prevent this sort of situation that we have in European soccer. Where the team with the biggest amount of bucks can just sign whoever they want.

I thought the salary cap would prevent this by giving a set amount that clubs are allowed to spend of salary's? lol @ the Coyotes, I thought they were going to be moving to a different city soon, although that may be just a rumor. :)

Oh yeah, and I'm a bit gutted Sakic had to retire. :( Great player, definitely one of the legends of the game and I've always had a soft spot for the Avs. Their my second club. :)

That was the plan with the salary cap but because they have the worst one in the history of sports you can exploit it easily.

You could in theory offer a 50-year deal and make it avaerage out at 2 million and still have lots of cap room to spend on more players lol.

Who knows what's happening with the Coyotes, they suck and no one goes to watch them even with Gretzky as head coach.

To be fair I think that a great player doesn't always make a good coach and I don't know what Gretzky was thinking!

Out of their entire roster I'd probably have Shane Doan and Ilya Bryzgalov. Pants.

Anyway dude, I'll check out your site a bit more and we can talk sports some other time. :)

Hey the Coyotes don't suck  (well not much :p) besides they beat the Bruins 4-1 so they can't suck that bad.

I think i can agree that no one wants to go there but that's more to do if they remain in Phoenix or not as i read Winnipeg wanted them back. Didn't a consortium fail to buy them?
