I've had a Dell Inspiron 1520 about 2 years, 2 months ago the battery life was fine, maybe an hour per charge, but it's deteriorated rapidly, it's now got to the stage where if I pull out the power chord it instantly loses power. I'd rather not shell out £100 for a new battery, as I'm hoping to get a new laptop in about 6 months, is there anything I can do to sort the battery? I only need it to have enough power to last a few minutes, it's a pain losing what I'm doing every time I knock the cable!

the battery is dead, nothing else you can you do but buy a new one.

have your laptop hibernate instead of shutting down. this will ensure your work is still in memory when you start it back up.

Unlikely that will help. It takes more than a few seconds to write the memory image to the hard drive, it would be better to get that new battery.

Yeh that's no use unfortuntely, power loss is instantaneous, it's like i've not even got a battery plugged in. Looks like it's a new battery then :(
