Physx with ATI crossfire system?

Hey all

Okay, since Nvidia stopped Physx working with ATI systems, there has been a patch released that allows it. My question is whether anyone has got it working or not? What card for Physx are you using?

I was thinking of only using a cheap 9600 with my 2 x 4890s. Please refer me to another thread if the answer is there

Thanks
BaD

EDIT: My mobo is the 3 x PCI slot ASUS Rampage Extreme 2. When three slots are used, it is reduced to 16x8x8x. Now, it's 16x16x. Will I reduce performance based on the new config?

I am going to be doing this at the weekend with 2 4890's and one 9800 GT. Will be doing a few benchmarks to compare beofre and after. If you can wait till saturday will have an answer on if its worth it or not :)

Gigabyte EX58 UD5 so will be going form 16x16x to 16x8x8x aswell :)

Mate, that is awesome! Be very keen to hear how it goes and what benchies you get. I have 06 and Vantage scores, so if you can rate against old scores and let me know whether the £50 investment is worth it

Sadly I don't have an old system in so have to pay. Wish to make sure it works before buying an old card

Cheers mate and good luck!

Big fat fail for me. But wasnt software problem was hardware, well installation of hardware. Nvidia card just wouldnt fit as the back of the card would be touching the 2nd 4890 and would stop the fan from going round. Fairly gutted about that :(

Works well here, shame there's only 2 games I like to use it on.

Sorry to hear that Bumhug. I have a 9800GTO fitted and lanes running at 168x8x. I run Physx benchmark and it's averaging around 70fps max. Without Physx enabled, I get around 8.

However, Mirror's Edge slows right down when glass breaks.

Fornowagain, would you mind explaining your results? Physx in Vantage? How did you get it working properly? What was the order of driver installation etc

Thanks

Have a good read of this thread > http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=235968

These are some results I've posted before, Batman Arkham 9600GT and 5870CF 1920x1200. Enabling Physx takes a big hit overall, but overclocking the GT scales well enough, but didn't make any difference to the minimums.

Shouldn't do that. Sounds like the cpu bug. Stupid game reverts to the cpu even with a physx card on board.

This worked for me

Delete the following:
PhysXcore.dll
PhysXDevice.dll
and the folder called PhysXLocal

DO NOT DELETE PHYSXEXTENSION.DLL. The game will not run without it.

Fornowagain!
I have bought Batman AA and testing now. Have the 9600 too, so may oc it a bit
I read that Mirror's Edge idea somewhere else and yes, it works. Just testing Batman now!

Thanks for your help bro.

Mirrors edge runs butter smooth on my setup with full physx

You too have a 9600? How do you know Physx is working? Have you ran Fluidmark? What was your score?

Everything seems to be working for me

Sorry for double post... but... although I am getting 35k (save for 21k) for the CPU score, I am now getting 18k (save for 21k also) with a 9800 in my system. My only conclusion is that

1) The reduction of lane of the second card from 16x to 8x is actually having an effect; and
2) The Vantage score is run with dual screens and reducing the score

I am also seeing a slight effect in MW2. The system appears to slow down during epic explosions, whereas it definitely didn't before

Thoughts? Have I missed something

Thanks

Bumhug, which 4890s do you have in your UD5 at the moment?

I have the same mobo, and a couple of XFX 4890s on order to replace the OcUK Value ones just bought which were too wide to use in the 16x16x slots.
Was hoping to use one of my old 8800GTs for physx but this doesn't sound good...seems like I should have just gone for 2* 260 SLI, or even my original choice which was a P55 mobo, i-7 860 with a single 5850 :(
LOL, doesn't matter how much research I do I always feel I've made the wrong choice...and in the end I'll just feel I didn't even need to upgrade anyway :)
