Not a big fan of straight spec me threads but am a bit stuck:

I am currently playing Aion, and will continue to play for a good long time yet, but I'd like to join another mmo/mmorpg for a bit of a difference too. Thing is I haven't a clue what to join. I've looked at wow, eve and some other ones, and I don't really mind what the content is - but I don't know if it's too late to get into wow etc as a total beginner in their system. Also I don't always have 5 or 6 hours in a row to spend playing so afaik that rules out eve. Does anyone have any suggestions for good mmos that have a decent population, doesn't matter if its pve and pvp or just pvp, and price essentially doesn't matter. Only one I'm not interested in is pirates of the burning sea as I tried that and didn't like it. The only ones I've played are Guild wars and Aion.

Tl/dr: Spec me an mmo that is good.

Cheers.

i would try out wow even tho the game has been around for a while its very easy to gear up and its the best mmorpg out there and game content is great. You wont have any problem catching up with other players at all that have been playing for years since like i said gaining gear is easy its very casual friendly so if you don't have the time you wont have to worry much most of the hardcore things now in wow is hard mode content aka you can do it easy mode or hard mode for better loot pvp is also awesome in this game arena system and battlegrounds for huge 40vs40 or 20vs20 battles and so on.

I like Runes of Magic. It may not be to your taste as it is a free MMO and some people have an intense dislike of them but I have had a lot of fun in it. The only reason I am not playing at the moment is Dragon Age has my attention :)

Probably the more important question is, what sort of MMO do you want?

Sandbox or theme park?
PvP or PvE?

I don't know what theme park is but I'm not that bothered, I can adapt to game style. Also I like a mixture of PvP and PvE - I haven't got much experience of PvP, apart from console games etc, but I'm happy with either.

WW2 Online Battleground Europe, is for me the best game I've ever played. It is soon to go through a massive graphics overhaul which can only add to it's awesomness. http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/

Also, I am really looking forward to this: http://www.swtor.com/

Will have a nosey around WW2OBE website and see - am also looking forward to swtor, it looks pretty good.

My personal experience with WoW after coming back from not playing for about 5 months was that it's now unbelievably easy to gear up. I came back, levelled a different character to what I previously had as my main and had it better equipped in 3 days than the months I'd spent raiding on the other character. All it takes is a few competent people to do instance runs with you as soon as you hit the level cap.

Almost all of the MMOs with a steady userbase have 7 or 10 or 14 day trials out, you'll get a multitude of different recommendations in this thread, but ultimately the only person that will know whether or not you like a particular MMO is you. So my recommendation would be to download the trials for 3 or 4 MMOs and try them out and see which ones you like.

Steam has a 21 day trial for eve, you can put as much or little time in to it as you want (within reason) but its pretty much essential that you interact with people and join a corporation .... ask the ocuk eve corp tbh.
