Having just installed and had a chance to play with for the first time Win 7 on my parents computer I'm sorely tempted to get it for mine. Is there really much difference day to day between them?

The other option (well not really option...) is to find another 2GB of DDR RAM to stick in the system as at the moment I keep running low on RAM. I regularly have a VM box running and that can cause a lot of slow down on my system... (Got 2GB already)

So yeah essentially i've gone "oooh new thing!" and am trying to convince myself to get it, where I really know it's not going to solve my problem...:p

I like Windows 7 mate but unless you want the built in backup of Pro and Ultimate I'd be tempted to stick with Vista.

I really like Windows 7 though!

Do you actually need Pro or Ultimate over Home Premium? There's no difference day to day between any of them, apart from additional features you may or may not need. Choose the edition with the features you do need and use the money you've saved to buy some more RAM.

Sorry I wasn't making myself clear.

I already have Vista Ultimate on my PC and am wondering whether to upgrade to 7 Pro (pro because of the student deal so £30). However is the upgrade really worth it (in terms of speed and features mainly, although the UI is very snazzy...:p).

Also Pro doesn't seem to have any games! :p

faster boots, faster game load ins, less memory usage, faster UAC system, more responsive command structure, more configurable, pinnable file system, better themes, more compatable, better overall layout, sleeker, idiotic separate sidebar process has been integrated into explorer.

not much reason to switch really.

Switch. It's a lot nicer to use and performs better.

You can install the games via Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On/Off.

Upgrading to Windows 7 is not going to solve your RAM problem - it's slightly more efficient with memory but not enough to make a difference in your situation.

I'd go for it (along with more RAM) as from what you've said it doesn't sound like you'll miss any of the features from Ultimate.

Just get Home Premium. Unless Pro or Ultimate is going to be cheaper for some unknown reason for you, or for free. Windows 7 is excellent.

Did you even read the thread?

OP, 7 pro is lovely, got it for free from my uni, love it.

My main comp is on Vista ult, want to put 7 on it but dont want to pay so much (in place upgrade with so many games).

Cool I'll try that shortly!:)

I "upgraded" from Vista Ultimate to 7 Pro, and the only thing I'd like and don't have is bitlocker.

Good to hear from someone that's done it. TBH I rarely use bitlocker (just the standard encryption of external drive files), the only thing I will miss is the video desktop.

*Puts hands over ears* Not Listening! :p

I know it's not unfortunately, but trying to persuade myself it will.:p

i moved from vista prem to win7 pro and yes its faster/smoother and a lot of problems solved im still getting a lot of annoying problems with win7 loss of connection for 1 which never happened in vista.
but for the £30 i paid on student deal im not argueing!!
