*** Available to pre-order *** Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 1024MB @ £139.99

Okay, thx for the info. I think i will order it today, because i dont like how the HD 5770 v2(eggcooler) blows the hot air in back to the case.

I agree with you on that point I too prefer my graphics card to vent out of my case. Its probably the only reason I havn't bought 2 X 5770 myself. I wish Ocuk would make the effort to put more info on there pages regarding whether a card you wish to order is ver1 or 2. In fact I'm sure Fatboy posted that he could'nt guarantee what type you would get. I thought why the hell can't they specify, surely its not too much trouble to keep your customers happy. At the moment the only 5770 I would trust to not be ver.2(egg)would be the vapor-X which unfortunately I consider to be too pricey.

However Fatboy if the vapor-X 5770 was £10 cheaper in price then maybe!;)

I was stung (or, at least, surprised) by that recently. I assumed I was buying a V1, as the image and, more importantly, the manufacturer's code on the product page specified V1, but I ended up with a V2.

I can pretty much guarantee that OcUK won't be selling any more 5770 V1s. All new 5770s will come with the "egg" cooler. (I think they should update the product page to reflect this.)

I'm really not convinced that the 5770 Vapor-X even exists. Has anyone found any information on it yet? I actually had one on pre-order, when the ETA was being reported as 2nd Dec, but I cancelled when I realized I was waiting for something that may not even exist. The Sapphire webpage only mentions two Vapor-X cards (5750 and 5870).

On the subject of the "egg" cooler venting inside the case, I agree that the V1 cooler was better in this regard. However, I'm not sure the Vapor-X cards vent outside the case, do they? (They are cooler cards to begin with, though, so there's a benefit in that regard.)

I dont think overclockers would advertise somethink that doesnt exist but you never no! i am going to wait till monday if its not in the asus or xfx looks like good choices.

There not cooler cards so to speak, just a more efficient way of removing the heat from the card. Physics was never my thing, I liked making thermite too much, but the vapor x, if it dumps air into the case, will dump just as much heat into the case as the others.

I need a v1 card if I go 5770 as my rig is suffering a little from postive pressure. It's not casuing any noticeable issues but adding to hot gpu's to this mix won't be good.

Some sites don't claim imaes for illustration and are listing v1 and v2 cards from the same manufacturer.

You wouldn't think so would you.....

It wouldn't be the first time they've listed something that never came into stock. (That's nothing against OcUK; I'm sure it happens to all retailers from time to time. They're relying on information from their suppliers, just as we're relying on information from them.)

Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, I'm wrong, and the 5770 Vapor-X really does exist. :)

I've read that they use higher quality components in the Vapor-X cards, using lower voltages, hence less heat. They also use a non-reference design for the PCB in the Vapor-X cards, which is another place they may find ways to reduce heat.

Can anyone confirm whether what I'm saying is true or false? (I'm not claiming to be an expert here; I'm just stating what I've read. ;))

Interesting. Previous vapor-x cards have seemed to be better clockers, this would seem to be down to the quality of the silicon in the gpu - presumaby when the chips are speed binned the ones capable of going faster end up in the premium cards. After all faster will mean more heat so the improved cooling of the vapor x will be beneficial.

I think thats the theory but I'm not sure the relatively small performance increase and very slightly better cooling is worth the extra dosh. If it was a tenner more, maybe worth it then. Truth be told its the look of the card and the fact it has a cool(no pun intended) name which attracts people to buying it as against any great overclocking results, in my opinion.:D

Which brand was it that you got "stung" with? Powercolor, Sapphire, etc...
