Windows 7 sleep issue....

I've been using windows 7 for since release without issue on my desktop. When I'm done I use the sleep option off the start menu. But just recently when I power up it's as if from a cold boot and the 'windows didn't shutdown properly do you want safemode etc' dialogue pops up.

Not sure what caused it - to my knowledge I haven't messed with any settings, it all looks OK and as it was. Any ideas?

OK, I uninstalled the only apps I've installed lately [intellipoint drivers and windows firewall control] and the wretched problem persists.

namnoc: I tried your suggestion too, to no avail.

I thought the sleep feature in 7 was great but now I'm back on full shutdown. If anybody has any ideas let me know!

;)

Strange but the windows 7 machine here is now not sleeping properly.
I would have thought it was a driver issue but i haven't investigated it yet.

Can't come up with any more suggestions as I have the reverse myself. Everything works fine from sleep, even if the PC is powered off while in sleep mode. However around 20% of the the time I shutdown it doesn't turn off. It powers off the drive, but the system fans stay on. If I then power off at the wall it comes back fine the next day, so clearly has shut down, but forgets to turn out the lights some time.

Thats happening to me, but the fans only kept spinning after its been in sleep mode. If its not been to sleep its shuts down fine everytime. I have Also noticed I lose sound sometimes when it starts up from sleep.

Well in a typically windows fashion my system seems to be sleeping properly again. A few random restarts seem to have done the trick. Hope I haven't spoken too soon.

Ok, sorry to dredge this topic up, but I installed 7 just after Christmas, and this problem has been annoying me, too. Sometimes it will wake ok from sleep, sometimes it's as the OP describes and needs a power off and then restarts with the message that Windows crashed whilst attempting to resume.

Same PC, same BIOS settings slept fine under XP.

I like 7 a lot, but this is really bugging me (this and my MCE remote no longer working properly in Media Portal...)

Did anyone find out the likely cause yet? Have Googled this issue, but turned up nothing that actually applies to my situation.
