Is an expresscard slot valuable nowadays?

I was wondering whether it is a useful port to have nowadays? I honestly can't think of a reason I'd need one?

Sound cards, USB/Network/firewire addons and a few niche adaptors are all I can really think of if Im honest.

It was so useful Apple removed it from all the MacBook Pro range apart from the 17", and installed SD cards slots instead.

Think there are some new SSD cards that fit in the expresscard slot. Seen it on Engadget.

there are a few docking stations that connect via the ExpressCard slot, but can't really think of anything else you'd use it for

If you ever want to install a TV card, better sound card or a card to give you more USB/Firewire ports then it'd be useful. Then again you could probably just get them in their USB variant anyway.

They come in handy I find when your low on ports. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yea i know they have been out for awhile. Think the new ones are meant to be faster and more secure or something:

Also noticed this that popped up. Bit bulky, but still it adds USB 3.0 support, albeit slower than a native slot on a motherboard:

Ive never used one! But then, I have a desktop as well. My laptop is for portability.
