When does xbox 360 warranty period start from?

I’ve just had to buy a new xbox 360 arcade to replace my dead 3.6 year 360 premium. I was wondering when the warranty starts from on these new consoles?
The data on the back is 2009-06-17.

Is it from the date of manufacture, or from when I first go on live or do I have to register it with MS?

It's from the purchase date.

This got me thinking, ive got 2 360 elites and just checked the warranty status on line, the first one which was manufactured in June 2008 but bought in May 2009 says its warranty runs out in July 2010 which doesnt make any sense.

That means the warranty runs out about 11 months after I bought it or 2yrs 1 month after it was built.

The other one was built in September 2009 and bought in September 2009 and the warranty runs out in September 2012 giving it 3 years.

I wonder why the first one is showing up wrong ?, both were bought brand new from a large high street games retailer btw.

Not a clue why it would show wrongly but as long as you have proof of purchase it doesn't really matter. MS will adjust their records if you need to book a repair and it's outside their online warranty calculation thing.
