Best insurance for young person + high performance/luxury cars?

Quotes for me at 24 for an e46 330 m-sport were just above a grand (I think ~1,200-1,300), for a same spec 325 it was almost 900... but only with direct line, with other companies the difference between the 330 and 325 wasn't much at all, but they were a lot more than Direct line were quoting me.

My plan is to cancel my insurance when I'm 25 in a couple months (for a £26 fee) and then get more quotes and a difference insurance, should drop by a couple hundred or so...

In regards to the purchase of a 30k e90/92 you must be out of your god damn mind! Either that or you're one of those people with more money than sense! If you want gadgets, spend 15k on a '55 plate 7-series... If you're insistant on a new shape 3 then get one that's a few years old. Follow the advice you are getting from the people on here, they know what they are talking about.

Impulses can be a good thing, say when you go after the hottest chick in the club, but you can always leave before she starts sucking your wallet dry... When it comes to cars, once you've made the purchase, you've already lost.

I did.

And the metal post inside said hedge which monged the entire rear suspension :D

Gutted!

Not bothered anymore, it was years ago, it was all fixed and it doesnt affect my insurance anymore. Lucky it happened when it did, if I did it now it'd have written it off :o

Oh man, I'm still bothered at the fact I've lightly scratched the bottom of my front bumper :(

I pulled over on a grass verge to help a guy who'd crashed into a ditch, then when I left once the fire truck arrived I reversed off the grass but grazed my bumper!! I was sooo ****ed off and angry at first, but now it just makes me sad :( She's booked in for a service and body shop this week though so woo hoo! :D £50 for an inspection II and £30 for paint work, all at the BMW garage in Cov... gotta love connections!

This thread just turned into comedy.

Even if I had millions and millions of pounds I can still appreciate value and would go buy a 6-12 month old example with next to no mileage for a significant amount less.

You say you want value for money by waiting for insurance yet are fully willing to blow 30k on a 3-Series NOW despite being able to get one 12 months down the line for much less. Your only justification is a result of "New car syndrome". You do realise cars roll off the production line then fail their engines, or gear train or any number of components, new is not a guarantee it will be perfect. It will be covered under warranty, much the same as a 12 month old car really - not much the same, in exactly the same way.

Bonkers.

Why would you do that? surely you wont get this years NCB added to your overall NCB.

Because I've only had the car for 3 months, and I'm 25 in another 2, so I'd rather cancel and save a few hundred and then get my NCB after this year. Would I save more in the long run by wating another 7 months and getting my NCB? Not got any NCB as this is the first car I'm actually insured on under my name.

How about you call around before canceling and make an informed decision then. :p

Depending entirely on what you drive 1 year NCB may be more beneficial than being 25 for your first year in the long run.

So you would rather start again at 25 with 0 NCB, than wait 7 months and have 1 years NCB. You should do some research into which will return a cheaper premium, 1 year NCB or 25 and 0NCB.

edit: (as stated above).

Yeah I was going to call around before I cancelled, I got quotes on my car for a 25yr old before I got my insurance and it was a good 200-300 cheaper.

Oh, and I remember why I got my insurance much cheaper through Direct Line, it's because they gave me the insurance price for someone with a 3yrs NCB (some offer they do if you have no NCB) and the guy who I spoke to at Direct line said it would work out better for me if I then cancelled when I turned 25 and re-applied with 0 NCB.

Sorry I didn't mention before, work is rapidly deteriorating my mind...

ORLY?

Either way it's minor to me if you don't believe me, but if you want more info I basically found out by doing my quote on their website, I was trying to find out how much discount a NCB would have got me and when I put 1yr NCB it went up! This didn't make sense to me (obviously) so I put it up some more and basically figured out that it worked out cheaper for a 0 NCB than a 1-2yr NCB.

When I spoke to the Direct Line on the phone I asked if they could do anything to reduce the cost as I'd be turning 25 in 5 months and he said that the price wouldn't increase much at all when I hit 25, but then I told him I got a quote for being 25 from their website and it was a few hundred quid cheaper, he then said he didn't notice that I hadn't got any NCB and then advised me on the whole cancel when you turn 25 and then re-submit... No idea how the discount is issued but it still led me to the conclusion of a 3yrs NCB offer.

That OK for you?

£2k for a 525d at 24

I eventually bought from Churchill at ~£1400 (and this is with no claims or convictions). But this was the cheapest quote by a long way.

It's the Liverpool factor unfortunately - I did a quote for my parents house 15 miles away and the quotes are around £800/900.

Most insurance companies will start a new driver off with a few years NCB, certainly was the case 'when I were a lad' :) If this is not the case anymore then it might be worth holding onto the insurance as at the end of the year you'll have 4 years NCB.
That OK for you?
