Which the best CPU I can fit to this board

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard, thats what I have with a E6600 running at 3.2Ghz. looking to upgrade the CPU and GFX, which CPU would you guys recommend is the best one to upgrade to, was gonna build a i5 system but decided to wait another 6 months.

The Core 2 Extreme QX9770 but you'll have to flash you current BIOS with the version 2103.

mm that may be a nice one but way to pricey, and the fact that Intel recommend you run it with liquid cooling is not for me looking to upgrade at a reasonable price for performance?(already have the latest bios)

e8400? Get it up to 4GHz no probs on that board. Or a q6600 if you wanna go quad.

Yeah would prefer quad, just never thought of the Q6600 much of a upgrade

You'll might be struggling to get it up to 4GHz on a board based on the 975 chipset.

You'd need to be running the fsb @ 444MHz to get to 4GHz which while just about doable on the P5W DH it might take quite a bit of tweaking to get there and be stable with it.

Something like an E7500 would be easier to overclock, what with it's 975 chipset fsb friendly 11x multiplier, cheaper too, and performance difference will be minimal 3Mb v's 6Mb cache.

Imo, if you got that CPU @ 3.2Ghz, there is no point upgrading on that platform really...

I'd wait and get an i5 / i7
