Just installed my new set up:

Intel i5 @ 3.6Ghz with Corsair H50 Cooler
Asus P7P55D Evo Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3
Geil Ultra Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit

Everything seems to be working fine thankfully, does this screenshot seem about right:

Started it off at 3.6Ghz but will attempt to try higher later on.

ps. I know my hdd is rubbish, SSD coming soon hopefully. :D

Win 7 Ultimate 64 installed all the drivers, the only thing I installed was the latest gfx card drivers for the 260 GTX. However, can anyone identify this unknown device and how I can either install the correct software, or as I think, possibly disable something in the bios...

Quick question about your overclock. I watched some overclocking videos on the internet for the i5 and P7P55D and they said you can get good overclocks essentially by changing the bus speed and leaving everything else on auto for voltages etc. So how did you go about yours?

Cheers

I am a novice at o/c! My last setup I purchased from someone on the forums and he left the setup running at 3.4ghz for me. It was the same again this time, however, for some bizarre reason it was downclocked this time. I changed the bus speed to 180 and changed the volts to 1.9 that was it. I also had to disable something in the bios to remove the downclock. So far everything seems fine.

I never bother with prime/stablity testing. I just use the PC for whatever I need, browsing the net, gaming etc keeping an eye on temp and if it never crashes then it's stable enough for me.

I've now set it to 185 (x20) = 3.7Ghz. Gonna install afew more things then install SF4. A 1-2 hour session of SF4 should determine whether or not the setup is stable. :D

BTW. No I haven't run the INF update, what other updates do I require? Will that remove the unknown device message? I've only installed the gfx card drivers, what else do I need???

Cool. I had just tested quickly a while back changing the bus speed to 180 and leaving the rest on auto and it all seemed to work fine. Remained stable under intel burn tests and temperatures during it maxed at 70C.

I changed it back though cos it all seemed a bit too simple, and having voltages set to auto worried me since when I had tried the automatic overclock thing it caused the system to crash every time dram voltages were set by any amount over 1.8

Whoa  Probably best to set your RAM manually to no more than 1.65v in the bios. You don't want to fry your cpu!

Been using it for the past hour set @ 3.8Ghz and no problems so far, although I haven't been gaming. It's been a hell of along time since I installed a gaming benchmark to test stability, I remember running 3dmark 2001 on a loop, but that was quite some time ago. :o

Anyone know any good 'newer' benchmarks worth downloading? I will let it run for afew hours and see if it handles it ok.

I've yet to install the INF update posted above, along with any other recommended updates...

That's what I was saying, the auto function was happy enough to run it up to 1.8 but as soon as it went over 1.8 by any amount the system crashed. Maybe a protection system?

Nice overclock so far Adz, would you recommend the RAM your using? Also do you think http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-368-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1495 will work as well as your MB? Would like to build i5 + that MB + possibly your ram and hope to achieve the same sort of results :)

I was only expecting 3.6Ghz out of this setup, because it was purchased from MM. Been running at 3.8Ghz all day without a hiccup so I am happy with that.

I'm not the best person to ask for advice as to what setup is best for overclocking, but I think these i5's all hit 3.6Ghz easy. One thing I have to recommend is the Corsair H50 cooler, it's keeping temps at high 20s idle which is the lowest temps I've ever seen on any of my setups ever!

I am tempted to try 4.0Ghz just for the hell of it. Will install that INF update first and also can you guys recommend me some good benchmarks please! :)

You run the chipset INF update found here?

EDIT: Just installed it and it fixed the unknown device problem, many thanks!!!

Just thought I'll try it at 195 (x20) and boots up fine. Been using windows for about 30 mins with no problems. Want to play SF4 to test stability but can't get my TE stick working for some reason! Will run a benchmark on a loop for afew hours. This overclocking seems too easy. :p

This cpu doesn't seem bad at all. Been using for 20 mins with no problems, about to run afew benchmarks now to see the outcome.

I'm not even gonna bother trying any higher, 4ghz will do nicely. :)
