Writing a book; need world ideas!

Surely your story and characters would be a product of your world, existing to change something happening around them. I highly doubt any of us could come up with a world for you as only you know your story intimately enough to choose the right setting.
I would agree with Dark Angels views as I am similarly writing a book myself.

I'm thinking more then a book; how about a series? It could be about 3 friends/people, and each book is from a single persons perspective.

The characters will not be a product of the world, actually, rather they will be deposited into it. Therefore the 'theme' of the world could almost anything. You have no idea about how my development process works and the title of this thread is not 'Criticise my writing technique', so troll elsewhere.

Touchy, somewhat? Looked to me like he was offering a good point for discussion, rather than trolling your thread.
Not at all. He's saying that only I can find the setting that I seek. I've already explained that, for me, inspiration can come from anywhere, hence this thread. I only want suggestions for settings; anything else is unnecessary and I shouldn't have to keep defending this thread!
All the other posters can understand this and it's rather interesting to behold the creativity on display.

I'd suggest trying David Gemmells books. His Drenai Tales are fantastic and put a nice (imho) 'twist' on the world.
Send them back to a time of when Achilles kicked arse....but only they go back thinking they have the right to change the past and how people should live but they get their arses handed to them.
see the twist is people think these guys are the good guys and they will sort **** out but then they bump into this Achilles character who is super cool and he just erm...cant be bothered to finish it.
