obviously I don't know enough shops :) none of the ones I normally check have any in, except ocuk
Well, I just looked and they are still showing 5870s in stock, but I'm not going to say who.

Saw some with another major competitor the other day (not for long), so maybe the supply situation is easing and OC prices will drop a bit? :(

<£400 is a fair price for the 5870, what was the price of the GTX280 at launch? £400-£500

8800GTX->GTX280->5870 is about the same jump each time, thats what you pay for the top end.

Just annoying you could have had it for £300 at launch

or in my case pleasing because i knew this would happen and i got it for 300 at launch :D

People ranting and raving over the (OMG HUGE!???!) price increase need to remember ATI had massive problems manufacturing their new gen cards and as a result need to cover their losses. There was a shortage of supply and extremely high demand, this is what has driven the prices up so much, it's basic business principles. OcUK can not afford to buy something and then sell it for £50 less, that's just plain stupid, they are selling them so they still make a profit but remember they are having to pay more to acquire them in the first place.

Anyway, I still wouldn't spend that much money :D

With reference to the above. I recently bought a new monitor, not from Ocuk, but from the purple shirted brigade, it was £46 cheaper than on here and I was both surprised and disgusted at the difference in price. And I would have to add that several other retailors were considerably cheaper as well.(than ocuk)

While I have been a fan of Ocuk for some time I have to say recently their behaviour with regards to the availability and pricing of the newish Ati cards and their attitude to their loyal customers ie, 'we will charge what we like because we have stock' has left a bad taste with me. These latest price rises smack of greed and 'we'd better get all we can just now' because stocks are going to improve very soon. Yes I accept they are in business to make money but..... I think their loyal customers( I'm not one )frankly deserve better. The rrp of the 5850 was £180 on release and its now £260, thats scandalous if you ask me. (rant over).

If I remember correctly the 4890(top single Ati graphics card at the time) was around £220 upon release and even several months ago dropped to £140.

These cards are blatently overpriced and what I can't understand is why, in a recession, people buy them.

The problem people have is the price increase isnt from ATI.... It is from OCUK.

I personally wouldnt buy one at this price i must admit i was tempted tho.

I think the problem people have is that stock does seem to be getting though now and most shops will have stocks in few weeks. So OCUK have increased there prices just to get the last few pennys from people before everyone gets stocks and prices go down

Personally I think there are good points on both sides.....

OCUK need to strike a balance weighting up all the points here (loyalty, demand, supply customer "impression/perception, customer retention), at £260 for a 5850 I think they are striking the balance wrongly..

This is just my opinion though and TBH it doesnt really bother me, but if I did desperatly want one of these cards I would feel more strongly about things (as a loyal customer myself)!

It's all relative, if u still have a job then the recession probably isnt affecting how much money u take home every month...

It's down to £245.99 now. :)

Price of the Powercolor 5850 has crept up to £254.99 from £249.99.

As for the prices going up and down daily, this seems a bit ridiculous as OCUK will know at the time of ordering a batch of cards what price they will pay for them, therefore, how the price can change once in stock says nothing other than "we can get more for it so why not".

The more money is moving about, the better the economy is, to get out of a recession, you should actual spend more ;) up to the point you no longer have a job that is :)

Recession hasnt effected how much money I take home but has effected how much money I have to spend, my mortgage is set at 1% above interest rates, happy days :)

i looked at that but limited upgrade options. also they really arent much better than a 5850 and cost same for 2

theres a thread on here posting dirt 2 benchmarks , CF 5770s beat the 5850 and 5870 on all except 4xAA where they lose to the 5870 by like 3fps. I understand about future upgradability but for the money ur spending in relation to being able to have those cards for 2 years and play any game will suit ur average gamer (not ur hyped up money spending benchmark enthusiast :P )
