Well, judging by your posting history, can I reasonably assume that you won't be voting for Labour at the next general election? I just find it remarkable how many people genuinely believe that we would be better off under a Cameron led Conservative administration. It's ironic because you think I've 'fallen' for this populist ploy, which maybe the case, yet, I won't be voting in the next election based on the myth that there's actually going to be any real change should Cameron win.

I don't believe I've ever posted any hint that I would vote conservative.

And you clearly don't understand irony and like most people at the internet shout it whenever you can as a "smart" was of dismissing something you cannot argue against.

Oh and before you say it that last statement is hypocritical not ironic.

I didn't say that you were going to vote Conservative, I said that you weren't going to vote Labour. Naturally, as you're not supporting the Labour party one would assume (perhaps not rightly so) that you maybe supporting the Conservative party as they are the only other party that could form a government. Based on that assumption, I merely thought it was ironic that you thought I'd fallen for a populist ploy when both of the party manifestos are made up solely of just that, populist ploys and dreams.

What utter tosh!

...

The country is broke, banker bonuses are an easy target that will set well with the public, certainly moreso than reducing the MOD or NHS budgets for example.

Seem to have contradicted yourself slightly there unless I perhaps read it wrong, which is likely :p Labour is doing this for nothing other than scoring points with voters, I find it hard to believe it for any other reason.

Here is another one:

Tax threat for wealthy: Agricultural Property Relief could be abolished
There is unattributed speculation from tax advisers that Alistair Darling will raise taxes on high earners and those with substantial assets in the pre-Budget report on 9/12, including an increase in inheritance tax to 50-60% above £1.5m and the abolition of inheritance tax exemptions on agricultural land.

That should sit well with every voter that has a chip on their shoulder against anyone who has a wealthy family wanting to pass on their assets.

Fair enough, I was obviously mistaken then. Please accept my apologies.

NEVAR!!:mad::mad::D

We shall settle this in the time honoured way DEATHBALL!!

Well, is the shock tax going to apply to his own goverment? Public Sector bonuses are sickening and given even without merit. At least bank bonuses are tied to adding value to the bank. The former are just paid for doing their job properly it seems.

I think the deafening silence (yet again) from the Opposition is pretty telling, I don't know whether it's Mandelson getting more influence but the Tories have been chasing shadows for a number of weeks now, though Cameron isn't doing himself any favours with his useless rants about health & safety myths cribbed straight out of the Daily Mail.

Is it possible that the Tories could actually throw away their lead? It would be hilarious if it happened tbh :p

The H&S rants did leave him looking a right asshat.

Solution to the banking issue? Put them thorugh some sort of mock mortgage interview, questioning their bonuses and income. Those who don't cut the mustard, execute them. Those that can account for their actions and bonuses, keep. Watch the bonuses plummet and the sector will be populated with those who have some degree of competence. Job done with an emphasis on fun.

Largely it's the ones who are getting paid the 6 and 7 figure bonuses that are responsible*, which is the topic of this thread. Your cashier on 13 grand a year won't be getting taxed, so I don't know what point you're trying to make.

Whilst I'd agree that the bankers who were responsible were on six and seven figure bonuses, I'm pretty sure that a large proportion of the bankers making that sort of money are hard-working productive citizens who had little or nothing to do with the crisis (e.g. M&A, Ops, Research, GCM). It's like punitively taxing all the doctors because a few of them thought lobotomies were a good idea.

Don't forget that the traders who earned millions in bonuses were only doing what they were told to - which is sell X for as big Y price as possible. They did it superbly well, and deserve the bonuses they get.

Anyone who says different is just jealous and envious.

The people who do not deserve their bonuses are the executives. Not the bankers. Not the traders. Not the associates.

Utter idiocy, but then what else do we expect from labour.

It won't raise any significant revenue.
It will damage the UK's status as a financial centre.
It will again show Labour thrive on the politics of jealousy.

Taxation should not be used for cheap points scoring.

This, it is idiocy. Top workers should get top pay and not be rapped by he tax man. Government keeps going this way they will simply move abroad. Just like a lot of celebrities and sports people, as well as loads of industries.

They moved away because of greed, they benefited from the system since the day they were born and refuse to add to it. I have no time for celebrities and sport people, that moved away because of tax issues.

You earn £20,000 and pay £4,000 tax.

I earn £200 million and pay £100 million tax. I would pay £40 million if we shared the same rate... why should I be punished more for earning more?

That is why they leave.

Aren't you currently in the process of planing tax fraud and becoming a benefit scrounger?

If you feel so strongly that people can live without working why don't you just stop?

ive been thinking about it, and looking at ways to hide my assets, so i can claim, and iam being serious about this.

ive worked out i can claim around £200 pounds a week clear, plus reduced travel etc... been lookign into for the last month. bee scanning the benefits system and think i could increase it, however it requires planning.
