Hey,

Just on it now and felt my right wrist catch on something...I removed my coffee mug which was casting a large shadow on it and there it is... a small crack on the edge of the bottom of the case.

It's the area where the slightly raised bit at the top of the screen (there's two of them) meets the bottom of the case. Slightly to the left and above of the security white flashy light thing.

Funny how I was raving on about how well made they are and how it was worth paying the extra for it :( Oh and especially since it's only recently i've been using it a lot more than I ever have before.

It's a white plastic very late 2007 Macebook 13" etc. I didn't buy Applecare with it... so i'm guessing Apple will do jack all?

Thanks :(

edit!

Sorry guys, just did a search... EXACTLY the same as this.. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18014002&highlight=crack but a helluva lot smaller.

I'm fairly sure this is covered as it's a known issue. Book a genius bar appointment or contact an Apple authorised repair centre.

Thanks guys.. phoned them up before and he made me an appointment at the genius bar in Liverpool One. The chap on the other end didn't seem to know about warranty etc and by the looks of it they have replaced it for free for other people who've got theres out of warranty. Oh and is it a wait there while they do it job or do they have to send it away? Hopefully will do the same for me but the peeps at the genius bar in liverpool have never been much help..

edit.. the little bit just came off!

Hey OP. If you give your local Apple store a call and discuss it over the phone with them they should be able to repair it out of warranty as it is, as others have said, a known issue. I think some of the polycarbonate models suffer from peeling and Apple are aware of that. Should be easy to get repaired, and you were right about the build quality worth extra. It really is and I hope this experience doesn't taint the reputation of Apple for you. :)

It will have to be sent away or they may be able to do it in store, as you'll most likely get the whole keyboard unit replaced.

Yeah, I think I read here that they can do it in the store but you have to leave it with them and come back a day or two later to pick it up. :)
