Slightly different to other recent threads, I'm after recommendations and advice for my next motor. I've perused the market for a while and considered a few vehicles - might there be one i've missed? We'll see!

Pretty simple criteria:
- Budget upto £25,000 (if new, could consider higher priced vehicles and barter them down to this figure)
- Fairly comfortable/supportive seats (my MR2 was comfortable IMHO)
- Safety (Airbags, ABS required only - anything else is a bonus)
- Creature comforts (CD/iPod player, air-con, reasonable audio system)
- [edit: mileage removed to open up choice]
- True sports feel (sub 6sec 0-60MPH, good handling)
- 2 seats, any more is a bonus

Cheers! :D

You want a "proper" sports car, with a budget of £25k, but IF its used, it has to have less than 10,000 miles on it?

Enjoy your run of the mill boringbox.

Although I can think of a few things that almost fit the criteria, you are severely limiting yourself:

http://pistonheads.com/sales/730583.htm - For example has no airbag nor ABS.

for £25k you could get a hell of a sports car, then you go and screw it all up by limiting the mileage to 10,000. Hmm, Honda S2000 with low miles or well looked after 8-9 year old 911 turbo? I know what i'd rather spend 25k on.

He reminds me of that other dude who used to post and always ended by putting a smile at the end of cheers.

Obvious previous forum registration is obvious.

Z4M sounds like a good idea - nice fairly back-to-basics car with a monster engine.
As stated in a previous thread, I am also considering a Lotus R (2nd hand).

The mileage shouldn't be a major limiting factor - it was a rough guide. Some vehicles have a hard life whilst others take the age and wear very well.

Can't think of too many sports cars that have only ABS and airbags as a safety feature. I suppose you can always turn off other aids though. Z4M will be available within budget with <10K miles if you can find one. Might get some sort of older Boxster S that hasn't gone past 10,000 miles as well. TVR and Lotus are good shouts. PRoper hardcore sports cars like a Caterham should be obtainable. That mileage limitation is properly prohibitive though.

Thought you were dead set on a Lotus?

Oh well.

Can't think of too many sports cars that have only ABS and airbags as a safety feature

All Pre 2006 S2000s is one candidaite, and most Post 06 S2000s which do not have VSA specced :D

- Creature comforts (CD/iPod player, air-con, reasonable audio system)

Not sure why you specify this. Would you let "The right car" go because of any of those? Aircon perhaps but your unlikely to find sports cars in this price range without it.

Audio can be retrofitted, I have iPod, MP3 from HDD/Flash, Bluetooth handsfree/Voice control etc etc retrofitted into my S.

25k is a big budget, but I have absolutely no idea how you want to spend it. You want a complete package off the forecourt by the sounds of it? You could spend 10-12k on a mint 2005 S2000, chuck a Turbocharger in it, a good tune, handling upgrades and have a 2 seater convertible with BHP/Tonne to show up some exotica.

Your criteria rules out anything of the likes of kit cars, Elise/Exiges and VXs. Your 0-60 criteria seems a little strange too. Would make sense if you wanted a traffic light grand Prix or Drag strip car but you don't - you want a 'proper sports car'.

I suggest you get out there and actually test drive a load of stuff and actually work out what it is you REALLY want, what you will compromise on and what actually does not matter at all - having iPod integration I imagine is one of those things, for getting a 'proper sports car' for 'proper' reasons anyway.

Look at condition, not miles. Is it not better to have a car that's been driven perfectly by an enthusiast who treats it with respect (you know the kind, that polishes the engine and whatnot) than somebody who just bought it to sit in their garage to rust?

The answer you're looking for is a Boxster S.

Proper sports car, Caterham? Lotus? VX220? You looking for a trackcar or for something that would be useable day to day?
