Freelance Mazda in Kent will do it for £90 inc parts. Whether that's inc or ex vat I don't know but even inc vat that's only £105

Probs gonna take mine there to have the belt and water pump done at some point; would rather take it to somewhere who knows what theyr'e doing and are aware of the LWSC issue ;)

Poor Howard and his LWSC :( Id ask freelance mazda about it first though just to make sure!

Have i missed something? His hasn't failed, failiure is generally due to the cambelt being changed incorrectly and can affect all 3 types of crank, the earlier cars are just more prone to it.

How much is labour and why are you not getting the waterpump done?

Or does the kit have one in?

Didn't know the water pump was an issue or key point really.

Can't comment on labour either as I'm getting:

Engine Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Gear Oil
Diff Oil
Fit Thermostat (I'm supplying)
Coolant
HEL brake and clutch lines – black
Clutch & Brake fluid
Spark Plugs
Cambelt Kit
4 wheel alignment/fast road setup
Fuel filter
Aux belt checked etc.

It was £388 all in before I added the fuel filter and alignment so it'll probs be about £490 all in. This is all at Unit 8 who are very trused in the Type-R, Scooby and Evo scene. I could do the service parts myself but I'd rather my trusted machanic do it first and have a look over the car so I know I'm safe.

Should I really get the water pump done? Its got 70k on the clock, I assume its a Mazda reccmendation to get it done at the same time?

It may well go for another 170k miles as it is not a service item, but you need to take the cambelt off to replace it, so if your doing one you may as well do the other.

In fact a cambelt is less likely to kill your engine on these than the waterpump, not that this is saying much.

Thermostats generally don't go, and are easy to replace, if it's fine, leave it.

Use an OEM oil filter as it has a non return valve.

Personally why it's all off and apart i would change the rocker gasket, and the 2 o rings as well as the aux belt.

An OEM w/pump - £40
Aux belt, o rings and rocker gasket - £35

Do this and your good to go, the gaskets and o rings won't last forever, but they are cheap and easy to fix.

Also check your clutch slave, £15 part, easy to change and stops you getting stranded (or buy one to keep in the glovebox).

EDIT: i have a braided clutch line, no point unless yours has failed (which is unlikely) and the same again for the braided brakes, if yours are shagged go for it, but i doubt you will notice any difference over working oem ones.

In fact a decent brake bleed with good fluid will have more effect (on this car).

What oil are you using?

I know someone selling a Mazda MX-5 Eunos. It is an 18yr old limited V-spec edition. Has about 160000 miles on the clock which isn’t bad for its age. Leather interior and glass back screen which is rare. Has a new cd/mp3 player in it. Tax and Mot till next spring. Also its British Racing Green. They want £1800 for it if your interested.

That sounds rubbish :), miles are not an issue on this car but due to most people caring too much it is worth half that (in the summer).

I would be suprised if he gets £800 atm.

A glass screen isn't rare it's a common thing with retrofit and aftermarket hoods.

Mine has one and cost £400 fitted (roof w/ glass).

Cheers for that. The car has no history so I'm getting all done at a garage I trust so I know its right. I just fancy the lines and they might as well do them while they're there as I want all the fluids changing as part of the service. I've seen a few posts about the thermostat sticking open and as the car is taking 6 miles to warm up, which could be air lock but I don't know, I don't want to find out later and have to revisit that area if the pump and coolant has been done too. I'm not well equipped tool wise *snigger* so for £20 it might as well be fitted too seeing as I have it already.

Genuine water pump, water pump gaskets & o-ring and will be ordered and I've asked if the gasket and oil seals are supplied with the cambelt kit he's getting and if he can get them or should I supply.

I could do most of the work myself bar the alignment and cambelt without too much hassle but I want to make sure its right and trouble free for at least a year.

It will be fine.

If your having heating trouble you may as well, but remember getting an air bubble out is free.

These cars will annoy you with niggles rather than faults.

I have the joy of taking out the heater matrix fan some time to regrease etc.

Easy job as the dash can stay in place, the next is the resonating winder mechanism, again £40 and an hour of my time, but still annoying.

But when you get on a good road with the music on you instantly forget.
