the doctors refused so now what?

Gotta love the doctors: "no, we won't help protect young children - we might lose our bonuses! lol!"

Nice priorities.

Just what the hell is this thread about, huh?

You drive-by a link, give two disjointed sentences, and then disappear.

Easy solution for the Government really; they could just give some leeway to GPs over fulfilling their obligations on access to appointments within 48 hours - problem solved :)

Or maybe they realise you don't actually need the jab if your healthy?

Also considering the 1970s swine flu, where the jab killed more people then the flu its self.

Also considering this swine flu has killed less then the seasonal flu we get around this time.

Why on earth should they be forced to inject a child with something it clearly doesn't need?

No i went to bed to pick up now, I cant sit on here all night unlike some.

I have children and want to know what people think about the fact that doctors won't do it so they are going to give the job to less qualified people.

Why won't the doctors do it its not as if they won't be paid what is wrong the the vaccine?

Nothing scary here. Doctors simply didn't want the extra work, so they've passed it to nurses and health visitors - who have already been vaccinating people for years.

They're not less qualified to give an injection! If anything, they're overqualified for the task.

Read the article. There's nothing wrong with the vaccine. The doctors did not object to the vaccine; they objected to the added workload and lack of flexibility.

Hope that's clear now.

It's an injection not open heart surgery. A very simple procedure that others e.g. nurses are there to do.

This, really - my ex was training to be a nurse, one of the first things I remember her telling me she was taught was how to give an injection.

Nothing to see here folks move along.

Very clear, poor GPs complaining about their heavy workload again. ;)

Well I guess it's lucky them.
At our surgery there is no way the doctors could fit in trivial work like injections - they are simply too busy.
I would guess this is the case for the majority of GPs.

Yep my gp is too busy for this crap.

You don't need a doctor to give an injection, anyone with a couple of fingers and a thumb can give an injection, infact, if it came to it, i'm pretty sure you could train a monkey to give an injection.

Why anyone who pays tax would be upset about much lower paid (yet completely competent) NHS staff doing this is beyond me.

The only thing that annoys me is that it's a waste of time doing it in the first place. At least this will waste less.

The makers of the drug will be getting nice bonuses this year.

my Doctor gave me my seasonal flu jab during a normal 2 weekly vist. She asked if i wanted it, i said ok, off she went to get it and came back and stabbed it into my arm.

because they want more money if they have to do the extra work.

No, it's cause they would lose their current bonuses. The theory goes that if they have to vaccinate 3m children during their busiest period they won't hit their 48 hour normal patient deadline and hence lose their bonus.

I think the payment for the jab was fine reading the article but I'm guessing their bonuses are worth more than what they would get for the jab.
