Oh you are going to need a case to put it all in and I don't know if you have Windows 7 already to take advantage of that RAM Ryan has spec'ed up for you or you are going to use another Windows/Vista 64 bit Operating system cause you are limited to around 3.6 gigs on XP using the windows hack.

So you can add another £120 - £140 + on top of that so it will break your budget.( thats if your case is fine in which case you can add 80£ or more on top of that )

Pro cards like the ATI Fire GL's & NVidia Quaddros are quite poor value for money & are frequently outclassed by newer, cheaper mid range gaming cards, even in 3D apps & for adobe acceleration in CS4 etc.
CS4 supports Graphics card acceleration with ALL newish Nvidia & ATI cards not just the pro cards.
Your current graphics card would be fine.
For what it's worth, I think you'll benefit far more from a 2nd, decent sized monitor than any other upgrade.
 
Thanks for that, I was thinking of getting a dual monitor set up for premiere pro,
i am soon getting hold of dv recorder so i was thinking of using a monitor for that
there is a hell of a lot of options
does anybody know anything about scratch disks, people keep mentioning these to me

Yeah I have heaps of scratched disks lol. But I guess you are refering to SSD's Memory HardDisk type of things. They are small, fast and pretty expensive per gigabyte and I wouldn't choose any smaller that 64 Gig to put an Operating system on.
 
ahah i thought it had something to do with storing files on for quick access?? am i wrong??
best drive for this, if say, i have my ssd used up by windows and adobe software

Couldn't say which is best I don't have one. But I'd go with the cheapest I could find.

Those are called Solid State Drives.

As you are doing video editing you are going to want large capacity drives such as a 1 terrabyte one. Faster is better. Unless you have a server with mass storage where you can store stuff and have a large capacity allocated to you then thats your only option unless you are going to store stuff on dozens of blueray disks.
