In search of a 2560x1600 monitor

Recently I've been having thoughts about getting a new monitor to repace my current monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 2493HM)

However I was hoping to get a monitor that supports 2560x1600, but that still has all the connections and features that I as a gamer would want. So far my research has turned up

the Dell ultrasharp 3008WFP - 30"

the Samsung 305T - 30"

the LG W300H - 30"

Which all seem OK, but I was wanting to know if there are any others currently out there that anyone here could reccomend me. If anyone knows of any models comming soon that might be worth waiting for. Finally what your experiences of 2560 x 1600 monitors have been like.

Any and all info is much appreciated

I'm in the same situation as you.

I'm interested in the 3008wfp. Image quality is good afaik, just not sure if it suffers from input lag as each review shows different results.

I know the Hazro 30" was good but can no longer find it anywhere.

There's an NEC 30" monitor but it costs 50% more than the Dell one.

As mentioned above, advice appreciated :)

I can't say anything about that specific monitor, but with my experience of many other dell panels the build and image quality are second to none! I would highly recommend getting this monitor and if you don't like it if you return it within 5(?) days under the distance selling regulations you will get a full refund (assuming you haven't broken it).
Win win situation, no?

DSR = 7 days from the day after receipt

Bear in mind with buying a 30" monitor for gaming u will always need to have the latest and greatest in gfx cards (and sometimes 2 of them) to be able to run newer games at decent settings.

Well I was planning when i rebuild to get a 5870 or an equivalent so on that front theres not too much of an issue.

Just my knowledge of dell laptops tells me they're not too great in terms of build quality.

I don't mind average build quality.

Still no word if they suffer from input lag.

Also worried that Dell will release a 3011 version or something within the next few weeks after I purchase this monitor.

I don't really like the idea of multiple monitors for gaming / watching movies.

Gaming/watching movies on 1 big screen > Splitting the image on 3 monitors + borders/gaps in between.

Also you lose the aspect ratio. Everything feels stretched at 48:10 compared to 16:10.

On a side note, can some one with a 3008wfp please run the following tests and report the results.

prad monitor lag tests

Pretty please with a cherry on top.

actually a lot of games work with 48:10 and increase the FOV rather than stretching it which i think is what your referring to. however, if watching movies is a major thing then one large monitor is def better.

Yep movies are a major thing :)

Can't be bothered to buy a separate dedicated screen tbh.

Prefer to have one for all.

I would prefer to get one big monitor rarther than 3 smaller ones. I find the edges of the monitors in between are a distraction especially when playing an FPS.

I dont plan on buying until next year so again if theirs any word on some newer versions or entirely new models it would be good to know. Id like to think some other companies would bring out a slightly smaller 2650x1600 monitor to counter the new 27" iMac

NEC are bringing out a new range of IPS monitors, including a 30" 2560x1600 model and a 2560x1440 27-incher (presumably using the same panel as in the 27" iMac).

They'll probably cost an arm and a leg though...

Those soon to be released monitors look interesting but if they're going to be excluse to NEC, they'll cost a lot as they're targeted to graphic professionals as well.

I'm still not sure if I should go for the 3008wfp. Getting mixed reviews online.

Some say it has input lag, others say it doesn't. Some say it has rubbish black levels; something I want to avoid considering I returned a Hanng 28 mainly cause of it.

Sigh, decisions...

You will still need dual video cards to run games at 2560x1600 with 4xAA or higher (on newer games)

I have the 30" Dell and sometimes regret buying it, as it costs me an arm and a leg when upgrading my cards! I think next time i will go for a 24" screen when one card is perfectly adequate

If you have the cards, the games look fantastic though.

Input lag isnt something ive ever really looked out for.

Is it more of a problem with the bigger monitors?

Noobquestion: I'm also gonna assume were just talking a delay in the signal here?

I can handle the upgrade costs every now and then.

Got roughly the same pc as your sig.

My concern is, do you notice any lag when playing any fps games? UT3, quake etc ?

And are the black levels proper black or washed out gray ?

I assume that you've got the a02 revision which is the latest one (i think).

Thanks in advance.

Never once noticed any lag at all, colours are absolutely fine. It's a cracking monitor, no doubt about it. Pricey though!

Finally a reply from some one with the screen.

Thanks somewhatdamaged ;)

I'll be getting one of them soon enough.
