Just added a display to the 27" iMac. Usable resolution now: 4240 x 1440.

Oh boy does it get any better than this?

Not bad for a birthday present, eh?

That...is a CAT.

That's my cat that happens to be called LordSplodge! The Dell has a picture of Crib Goch. Both taken with an Olympus DLSR.

The Dell was a big to get calibrated with the iMac display. I feel the need to get a Spider to to the calibration properly at some point.

Always thought those keyboards were a bit.... well....... gay ;)

But the iMac looks awesome at that size, so it counterbalances :D

The Dell looks tiny next to it. How big is it?

I bet LordSplodge would be called something else if it knocked the iMac off the table..

None of our three cats are allowed in the study (apart from desktop backgrounds!) so the iMac should be safe

Here's the other two cats:

Keyboard is too small and as this imac will be doing a lot of work in Final Cut Studio it really isn't up to the job but it does give me space for a dedicated Shuttle.

The Dell by the way is 22" so isn't exactly a small screen!

Yeah but those are my wife's two cats. Not as cute as my LordSplodge

Awesome. :D

Would be better if it was an Apple Cinema display job instead of the Dell but still...

:o

The Dell is a hangover from my PC (now donated to my son as an early Christmas present). I may get a Cinema Display at some point in the future.

Real men have a seperate numerical keypad in the keyboards lol.

Real men don't need a numeric keypad or large enter key! :D

There's something about dual displays.. they need to match or it looks silly (to me).

Waaaay too many cats in this thread. The ratio is shot! :p

I've always thought about getting a second display for my HD video work in FCE/P - have the output window in one screen then have the library, clip and timelinw window in the main.

How are you finding FCP7? I'm still on 6..... that book any good as I could do with some extra tips to make good use of it all.

Real men not only use the proper keyboard, but we don't use any of that namby pamby 16:9 malarky either :p

Lovely cats btw :)

1920 x 1200 + 2560 x 1600. Consider my willy waved.

I think I would go blind trying to use that resolution. You must get a chair that tilts because that is tilt worthy.

What do you use the second display for?

Currently has my Twitter feed on it. However it is destined to be used as extra real estate for FCP editing (sharp eyed people may notice the Apple Certification Series book on Final Cut Pro 7)

I am not buying a second 27" iMac as a second display just to make it match. That is waaaay to much like bad OCD. I would like a 24" ACD at some point though...

The book is good but I will need the one on Advanced Editing in FCp as well (and I also need the book on Motion 4 but I'll deal with that later. FCP first!)

At the moment I use the browser window on the second display and the Time Line + Canvas and Preview windows on the high res iMac display. Oh and so far the iMac has just laughed at any footage I've thrown at it including some Apple 4444 ProRes 1080p footage (most footage has been 4422 though). :D I have also not (yet) managed to bring the iMac to it's knees with Motions Live Preview. I've got close with some serious particle useage though!

I believe NEC are releasing a monitor using the same 27" 16:9 panel as the iMac. Unfortunately not only will it not match (Though they do look lovely IMO), but it'l probably cost about the same as another 27" iMac :(
