About 12 months ago i wanted a tattoo, got a mate to draw what i wanted and then i went down to the tattooist and booked my session. The thing is i changed my mind and didnt have one in the end.
Now my mind has gone back to it again, im currently looking on a site called tattoo johnny to see what i like. Im not sure if i my mind will change tomorrow or a couple weeks later. I must find a tattoo that i will love forever anyway i got questions:

1) How do you know that tattoo is the right one for you?

2) Ive got real milky white skin, if i was to have a tattoo on it and later on get a real nice tan later on will it do anything to the tatto?

1) worms are out

2) no.

Dont forget that if you get a tattooo you'll become socially unnacceptable and will never get a good job. You'll be doomed to working in a warehouse and out of sight of professionals. You'll regret it in 50 years and you'll look stupid when you're 80. It has to have some deep, intricate meaning to you otherwise it's just stupid.

1) design it yourself or get someone to design it for you and spend a lot of time getting it right - and meaningfull..

once the design is done, leave it for 2 months and see if you still like it then.

2) no. but sun does damaged tattoos after time

1) it's something you won't mind having when you're 87 in a nursing home having someone sponge bath you, last thing you want is "never die" on your ass ;)

2) as long as you don't go out and get burned within 6 months or so of getting it done, it'll be fine, maybe a touch up after 5 years depending on how it looks or whatever

my friend told me you can get tattoo paper and he was thinking of trying it to see what it looked like first.

not sure if it's any good or if it would help you decide how it looks etc

as for DampCat's comments....well maybe but for me if i had one no one would see it unless I showed them so it really depends on where you have it I guess and what it is

edit: I think with tattoos you need to be a bit thoughtful about where you put them if you're having several and what they are, my friend's back looks awful because he has so many random ones scattered about.. he has his sons names down his spine, the word "sweet" across his shoulder blades, a dragon, a small lion's head and a couple of others.

You're very welcome. I wanted to save you from the usual responses really. I figured if we got them all into one post, we wouldn't have to suffer it spread across 3 pages.

I hate the mentality. when you're that age, who care what you look like?

as long as you don't get a swastika tattooed on your forehead it won't stop you getting a job

http://www.bmeink.com for a huge collection of tattoo examples. Good and bad.

I recommend going to a respected artist. Waiting lists a good example of the quality of work you will get. I would avoid anything less than month unless the portfolio is top notch.

In terms of design etc. completely upto you. Personally, I have all mine drawn up by my Artist as they have the experience to know what designs and colouring will work best on your skin tone.

Oh, i know. I should have slapped a [sarcasm] tag around it eh?

I was merely predicting the usual responses. I have a tattoo in an obvious location and have a very respectable job. Please don't think i was advocating that stuff.

I had mine done just over a year ago now!

Initially I justified it with a meaning to myself and when I explained it to others but that meaning has since gone out the window and I still don't regret it and love it! Most people have no idea it's there as I'm not your typical guy to have a tattoo, like you wouldn't look at me and say 'he's definately been inked' - People who know it's there (such as friends) forget it's there until I stay over or whatever and they see me without a shirt always get "oh, forgot you had that!"

Got lots of comments on holiday, and no the intense sun didn't ruin it and I went on holiday 3 weeks after it was completed just made sure it had twice as much sun cream on it than the rest of me and was fine! :)

Getting my next one just after xmas, cannot wait :D

My brother's got a few, first one was a typical tribal thing on his arm, artist drew it crooked, and it looks crap, then he had it extended by someone else, who had to make it uneven so it came back to where it was meant instead of being even more off centre. He's got his wife's name in a heart on his breast, which is stupid considering the marital difficulty they're always having, and he's recently had a big one done on his shoulder, not quite a sleeve, but big shoulder one, and it looks terrible, like a 5 year old was allowed to design it.

so just be careful about where you go, and be sure on what you like before hand
