Hi,

Just two questions ;)

1.) Thinking of upgrading from a 4870 to a 5970. Will my Enermax 620W PSU be enough to power this beast ? (i'm running an OC E6420 @ 3.2GHz, 2 optical drives, 5x HDD's, 4 120mm fans)

2.) If my PSU will work.. it only has 2x 6 pin PCI-E power connectors, how will I connect up the 8pin PCI-E power connector on the 5970 ?

Cheers.

What has it got on the 12v rails?

Mine has 3x25A per 12v rail but 50A max sum across all rails ... when I get a 5970 I should just about cope if I don't overclock it! IIRC for the 5970 the 6 pin should be able to supply 16A and the 8 pin 26A ... if it don't I'll let you know !!!

It would appear my PSU has 2x 12v rails:

" On the side of the box Enermax have placed a label containing some more detailed information about the Liberty. Here we can see that the unit has a total of 6 rails, 2 of which are +12v rails, each rated at 22 amps, with a combined output of 36 amps. The +3.3v and +5v rails are also well endowed, coming in at 28 and 32 amps respectively. "

what do you think ?

Not enough imo, you need to have atleast 50 amps on the combined 12v rails I believe.

I just swaped out my Corsair HX620 for a HX1000 before I fitted my 5970 just to be sure I had enough power.

what about 2 5770s? there less consumeing and better than the single 5870 in a lot of games (not all) and smaller in size :D

You have a 620 PSU that has 2 12v rails each of which can hold 22 amps each which means your PSU can supply 528 watts over the 12v rail (12*22=264x2). A HD5970 based PC can pull anything from 460 to 530 watts depending on how much power your CPU is drawing i.e. how heavily overcloked it is so your PSU might just about cope with the card but in all honesty you should leave some capacity left over.
