rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

I bet half those people won't even buy the record though - we need millions! :D

I wouldn't be so sure, I'm planning to buy it on at least two of the different sites.

Therefore I'm counteracting people who sign up to the group who don't intend to buy it!

I don't know if the hype for this is more or less than Jeff Buckley last year, but I think it has got a pretty good shot at getting in the top 5 at least!

Is it just me or are some people on that Facebook group taking this way to seriously? Just read an article linked to the group by a blogger talking about the boycott. They mention how Cowell stands to make a profit, etc. Some of the replies are hillarious and some are insulting. People seem to just skip the article and comment rubbish which is a shame as the writer makes several good points.

Imo the current song choice is a poor one in terms of message (irony ahoy!), however I can see a lot of people buying this because "ooh theres a swearword isn't that funny". An artist signed to a rival of Sony BMG would have been a much better choice as its likely the studio would back such a bid, they'd stand a much better chance of toppling the X-Factors monopoly on the Christmas Number 1.

Love Cowell's comments, hes playing a very clever game. He doesn't care what gets to number one as its money in his pocket, however by fuelling the fire he's trying to maximise sales on both fronts.

Why do people think cowell stands to make money from rage getting to number one? It's not like he owns sony, is it?

Either way, the guy will be raking it in for years to come, all this will do is dent is ego/pride a little and hopefully put of the same old same old from number 1.

:)

To be honest I don't think he'll be too fussed. The one that will be upset is whoever wins X Factor.

True basher, he'll give the "I don't care approach" but secretly I think he might be a tad annoyed, just because it does over his tally of "producer with most xmas number 1's" and overall achievement list.

He seems a genuinely decent bloke though behind the character he portrays, of course.

If Rage get to number one, he will still earn money. If X Factor gets number 1 he still earns money. If neither gets number one he will still earn money.

Either way the guy can't really lose too much :)

Would be funny if it does get to number 1, and it will almost certainly get into the charts with all the hype it's created.
How many people are actually going to buy it though, is it really worth it?
It's like in order to annoy Simon Cowell and the whole X Factor thing we're going to give money to a different record company...

The RATM sales won't affect the X Factor sales at all so the winner will still sell many hundreds of thousands of units. It's just the position of number 1 which may not be certain.
I predict RATM to reach number 4

If RATM sell only 100,000 they will more than likely be number 2.
When Leona Lewis won in 2006 she sold around 560,000 units which was more than the combined sales of the other 39 in the Top 40.

The same company, in fact. But that's irrelevent to me, I just want a good band to be #1.

If we're going in to the past as we are with Rage, I can think of a lot more "better" bands ;).

No, but given his position within the company I'd say he's bound to take a cut of the profits.

I know I'm probably coming off as pro x-factor but believe me, I hate it. I just think its one of those campaigns where too many people are getting over excited, thinking that it really matters and that what they're doing "is going to change the world, man" :p. Would also have preferred Guerilla Radio if they were doing Rage tracks.
