Nokia N900

What I was saying all along :D Thanks on the battery life update. 810 allegedly can go on for two weeks on purely standby, obviously no wlan, how long does the battery last if you leave music and wlan on?

Quite, and I certainly didn't knock that. Music and WLAN on I reckon maybe 8 hours, dunno really. I work on a netbook having up to 7 hours and I reckon this will do better.

Finally got my bloody dispach email - should arrive Sat/Mon; before Chrsitmas as was my only real hope, so very pleased.

810 as purely playing music, lasts about 5-8 hours. But with wlan on, barely 4-5. If both on can do 7-8 hours, I will be impressed. well guess in a week or two, ought to prod o2 to see if they can offer a reasonable deal on this. Or just get a mate from us to ship it I guess.

Why not? They are identical in their function with the only major difference being the new phone chip, and slightly faster clock speed. OS is identical, actually go to the terminal, and type uname -a. It be interesting to know the kernel version.

More RAM. greater storage, different CPU, different screen, 3D open GL support and the phone chip/function. The CPU is what makes the difference though, if it's hungry or not and add in the amount of multi-tasking you can do and it will eat power. That said, the N810 is still a good comparison. How does it fair against the iphone 3gs though? Same cpu...

what it run like on flash sites ? eg the proper .com version of youtube. i assume it plays the vids without the app ? if so are they smooth ?

Only double physical ram, the rest is 700mb is swapfile, saying that, up from 128 original.

Storage was simply changing internal SD card from 2gb to 32gb. It was probably the slowest version as well. Believe the OS storage got increased, though not quiet sure if the OS lives on the 32gb sd card or not.

cpu is changed, fair enough, but only about 200mhz.

3d opengl... not really sure what is the point in that, not like its a gaming machine really. Unless you can plug in a usb hub and use mouse + keyboard while connecting it to tv out. Now that would be good fun. At anyrate I am not entirely sure if that is hardware or software.

Phone chip, well you know how much I consider it to be a negative point for myself at any rate.

I was informed that the Iphone has restricted mutitasking on the OS level, rather then hardware, so unless you can re-write that, have fun.

The cpu is so different though, as we all know now, speed isn't everything. Went P2 400's went to P3 600's there was a massive change, this is equivilent. The iphone was only mentioned as I wonder how the 3gs compares on battery life. 8 wouldn't swap my 900 for any other phone I've seen; it is ace. You'll be converted ;)

Typing this from my n900 :), does anyone know what the default bluetooth password for the n900 is, so I can sync my contacts over?

just discovered the wee stylus, that definately helps, as my fingers are quite big. Much easier to tap at it with the stylus!

810 - OMAP2420 - 330 MHz ARM1136 + 220 MHz C55x DSP + PowerVR MBX GPU

900 - OMAP3430 - 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX 530 GPU + 430MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor)

Its only the next gen arm chip (not even latest), not being an arm nut, couldn't tell you that much about it. Its nice, but don't expect it to come down from heaven and lead us to the holy land.

You'll be converted ;)
No need to, will be buying it eventually, however for a more reasonable price. I just feel that the upgrades, do not cost half a grand. Maybe they make more sense to non 810 owners, but for me, there just isn't much that 900 can do that 810 cannot to justify £500 price tag.

you keep saying "only" "only" "only". Only "Double the ram"! Name a phone that doesn't run WinMo that beats the N900 hardware-wise :p

Is there a way of toggling numeric entry? Pressing that wee blue arrow button on the left side of the keyboard for each number is a little tedious on websites.

Also is there similar for caps, that doesn't rely on you holding the shift key?

Aye, press the shift key twice for caps lock, the blue arrow twice for function lock.
