Hi,

My specs are in the sig (except for the gfx which I didnt order yet)

I have a couple of questions of things that I'm unsure about.

1. Is the 5870 VAPOR-X worth the 400 quid tag?
I want to run games at 1920x1200 and everything on max settings. I don't want any noise as much as possible.

2. I plan to crossfire later so will 2 5870 VAPOR-X fit without problems in my Gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobo? (talking about the 2 16x slots) I read somewhere that one of the cards will have a higher temperature?

3. So for my needs (according to the 2 above questions)... what would be better: 2x normal 5870 or 2x 5870 Vapor-x (assuming it's worth the money).

Thanks

1. Yes

2. I have run double GTX285's on that board without a problem.. Heat or otherwise, would have thought vaporx would be gine...

3. If you could actually buy a normal one for £340 then probably would be better "value" but seeing as they are never in stock you really would have to buy the vapor version...

You can always pair it with something else in the future, crossfire is very flexible..

given the short supply of these cards and the issues we are hearing with production volumes from the factory i doubt it, the prices are hugely over inflated due to the lack of supply at the moment

Well, probably not much before then. The latest reports suggest that the shortage of complex 40nm stuff may last until the end of Q1 2010, i.e. supply won't pick up much until at least April.

I'm sure someone on this forum was saying that the prices of these cards should go down to the price they were at launch in the next week or so...

Both my cards run at the same temp on this motherboard in crossfire config. See my system config in signature. Not a prob and run at the normal high temps mentioned throughout numerous reviews on the web. Good cooling case is a must, watercooling?....if u like

I thought the temps in HD5870 Crossfire were about 10 degrees higher for the top card on this board.

This is what I thought as well...

That's why I was thinking of getting the Vapor-X version... dunno if it makes a difference though.

I think I may be able to find one for £350 which is £50 less than OCuK.

IS that worth it ?

Just stay with your single 5870 for now, wait till the DX11 games come out by that time 58xxx will be cheaper then go xfire. My OC'd 4890 is still a great card will only upgrade when DX11 games released.

There is no possible way they are the same on air, i have the same board and case with exellent cable routing, hot air gets sucked in by the top card as the spacing is stupidly close on this board. Have Done SLI and Xire myself and the top card is always 5-10c water is a diff story ofc.
wont do the cards harm mind.

Just telling it as it is!!!!!

Granted ... the top card does not have much space to draw in air from the small space between it and the bottom card. But any heat from bottom card is exhausted out the back.

With all my drives and stuff tucked away in the top 5 1/4 bays the 3 front fans throw all the cooling air towards the Vid cards!!

The Vapor-X isn't worth £400 and the normal 5870 isn't worth £360 but the Vapor-X is worth £40 more because it's a slightly better card which will be more desirable if and when you come to sell it ;)

That was my logic for buying one!
