Vodafone signal

Weird one here..

Two phones, both on voda contract.

One phone gets nearly full signal in my house, the other barely scrapes 1 bar and often has no signal at all? The vodafone coverage map shows I should be getting poor 3g and 4 out of 5 bars of standard service which is what the old vodafone gets all the time

The phone that works is about 2 years old, the one that doesn't is brand new

Hi jaxon,

You're right this is a strange one. However I'm certain that we can figure it out and get the phone working to full capacity.

May I ask, have you tried the SIM card in another phone? If not, could you do this and see what kind of signal it picks up in a different handset. If the signal is still very poor then I would suggest replacing the SIM as it may have become faulty.

Either way, if you would like me to look into this for you, feel free to contact me on by clicking this link.

I bet you can't. You'll just tell him to send the phone back, be without it for 2-3 weeks, then receive it back with the same problem. Because who cares, he's contracted to you anyway, right?

At least thats the experience myself and other N97 owners have with Vodafone right now.

Yep - top class service from vodafone and n97 here - finally found a customer services adviser who recommended I be refunded for lack of service from vodafone, only to send off payment for a copy of my notes under data protection. Got the notes finally after a month, during which time vodafone (no doubt because I asked for a copy of my notes for a contract cancellation) decided to add a note to say I am able to make and receive phonecalls sometimes when I make a walk and stand in the cold to make or receive a call so advise not to allow me cancellation. Last time I deal with vodafone - sneaky little ****s.

why didn't you and fox just use the 14/30 day distance selling act to send the phone back if you got crap signals with it ?

and taking weeks ? every-time ive had a faulty handset they've sent a courier out to swap it :/

It's highly unlikely to be the sim card. Blaming poor or intermittant signal on the sim card is akin to blaming your memory card for out of focus pictures on your digital camera...

The only exception to this is if you have a 2g only and a 2g/3g capable sim card.

First thing Vodafone say on the internal forums is 'replace the SIM card'. I am convinced its a stalling tactic.

I really, really miss the level of service Orange provide when things go wrong.

Replacing a sim card is something that can be done in store in a matter of seconds, is as close to cost free for the business as possible, and in some occasions does fix the problem (although not often in my experience, I'll concede that) - its a very easy thing to do, so you cant blame a company for going to that first.

Hi Jaxon,

As a SIM replacement doesn't seem to have solved your issue, would you like to contact me with the details given in my previous post. I will then be able to look into this further for you.

I look forward to hearing form you.

All the best,

Exactly. They don't care. They'll just constantly offer you the 'repair' service now and won't understand why you are not particularly happy about not having a phone for 3 weeks.

I'm returning to Orange when my contract expires. Every time I had a fault with an Orange phone within the first 6 months, a courier arrived with a new one even though I had no Orange Care insurance.

It was neive of me to assume Vodafone would do the same.

What annoys me even more is that I reported this issue INSIDE the 28 days. They don't care about that, either.
