£109 inc vat P&P

Total £225

________________
These are the components I have yet to purchase and have considered the past few days. Including the cost of the below it amounts to £937 inc Vat & deliverys.

The purpose of the system is for 3D rendering and music production though I do play games occasionally. The system will be attached to a 24" TFT that I use.

Spec looks alright, except for the GTS250, though, if it's up to the job for the things you want to use the system for then by all means stick with it..

Another thing, I personally wouldn't go for an OEM chip, for the little bit extra that a full retail chip costs, it's definitely worth going for it, 3 years warranty with the manufacturer compared to 1 year warranty with the retailer, I know what I'd choose.

Scott, you should setup your trust account here, so I can contact you!! :)

I left my email so you could contact me in another thread I posted in, but Ill just post it in here and delete it when you have added me.

scottym27 at hotmail.com ( dunno if you use msn)

Didn't know about trust accounts here or setting one up.

6 months ago I was looking at the GTX 260 types, but the difference in speed is not that great I think and there is more ram on the 250 ( 1024 MB) than the 816MB on the 260's.

Click the trust button next to the quote button in your posts, and then setup the account there..

I'll fire you an e-mail just shortly :)

I set up that trust thing but even on other forums I use such as 3D educational site 3dbuzz.com I hardly use the PM system, but then they do have a built in IRC chat option for live chat which is very useful.

£955 is way more than I ever consisdered buying a PC for. My last 2 PC's didn't ever exceed £720 since 2000 ( An Athlon 750 and a Athlon 64 3500. )
It's really difficult atm, with the Nvidia 11x cards due out early next year, notthat it's going to make much difference in current games anyway. My existing Athlon 64 3500 with it's fast graphics card can play the brillient Stawker Shaddow of Chernobal at maximum detail at 1900x1200 with out problems. so gamming is not really a primary concern. Having the maximum memory is, so if Gigabyte UD3 had 6 DDR slots I would have taken it. I simply can't put my faith in ASUS from what I have heard otherwise I would have taken their SE mobo though that is limited to ATI crossfire and I don't want a ATI graphics card as they have more problems with 3D rendering apps.

I looked at a few Biostar Mobo's but I can't see support in the UK for them so if I have problems I could be left with a painful RMA process ( The ones on the 1366 I looked at were 'end of line' with only 1 in stock on a few of the sites I looked at so getting replacements would be difficult and lenghy. I did a lot of research before I declined these.

I looked into the MSI Motherboards such as the Pro E while having a similar kinda feature set to the higher priced Gigabyte and supporting 6 DDR3 slots. From what I found, there seems to be issues with the north and south bridge in that the underlaying thermal pad is not suffient to keep the temperartures low enough even at stock CPU speeds of the 2.6 Ghz of the I7.

Other than the motherboards there is also the release of the core i7 930 at 2.8 Ghz that is said to be out in the first quater.

Overclocking the existing i7 920 does exceed the default speed of the I7 930 but at this time I don't know what process this 930 chip will take it's form in. either 45 nm or the 32nm type which does have a much lower power consumption as shown by the I5 cpu. For me anyway power consumption is important due to ever increasing electricty bills. Some may suggest that I should go for the cheaper I5 at it performs on par with the current I7 920, though you do lose out on the extra 4 threads which do become important in the fields of rendering images and animations.

About me
---
In my own life I have spent the past year pushing the software I use to where the machines fall over. 3D falls over in memory and music software falls over in CPU utilisation. Having spend a year after graduating with an HND in Interactive Multimedia trying to find work of any kind, it wonj't be until tommorow when I start at Comet in Elgin that I will have a break in the cycle of rejection. Yeah I have tried applied to Hunted Cow with position in 3D graphics but they failed in getting back to me with anything even after writting a 2 page letter handing in example artwork and giving them contact details in person. I was considering going onto try a course in 3D graphics near Glasgow next year but that is going to be expensive and I'm not sure if my skills are at really at the level in which I can capitalise on passing as I did in my HND which was really demanding.

It's going to be a matter of time and value because if I leave next year I won't have the I7 920 in my use most probably. (

Yep I've taken my own thread off track here, but it's my thread I guess but I hope someone will learn from it in some way.

As for the system I guess I looking to save money but maintain the integrity of a powerful system while knowing that I have some security in that if anything does go wrong it's not going to be a nightmare to sort out.
