Xbox Live - Is It Suitable For An 11 Year Old
Or more to the point Are 11 year olds suitable for Xbox live.

I swear to god apart from Alrik and Kreeeee the 11-17 yo crowd are the worst behaved bunch and cause the most agro on XBL

I think if you follow the advice in this thread your daughter will be fine. Its probably a bit saver than the rest of the internet tbh, but at the same time just coach her to stay off open chat and block all non-friends from everything.

My only other tidbit of advice is that computer games consoles should only be played in family rooms so that you can gadge the content of the game being played and the attitude of the people your child is playing with.

If she gets any agro, block communications and report the offender to Microsoft (XBL has built in complaint mechanisms that are easy to use)

I suggest a GT like MR HUGE or something! ;)

:D nice one :D :D :D

cheers for the advice, my daughter says she will be happy not using open chat and talking only to friends she adds, but i will definately be keeping an eye on things, also i have another daughter who likes to clype so if anything naughty happens i will hear about it lol :D

Isn't there a zone which doesn't allow swearing?

I don't know but it seems a lot of you guys are "NO THERE WILL BE SWEARING AND OLD MEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHERE SHE LIVES!!!!1!!" when really I doubt any of you have used the parental controls or zones?

I know the internet isn't the safest of places but I'm sure if you set everything up right it should be fine.

As has been said I wouldn't let my 11 y/o on it without doing some configuration before hand theres a ton of racism, xenphobia and just utter twonk talk going on whenever I play online...

Yep, pretty much the case on PSN aswell :p

There ought to be some kind of voice checking device so if it sounds like an 8 year old on CoDMW2 they get banned or something :p ;)

Shouldnt be an issue as long as you tie it down ie chat and friends. My 6yr old nephew, who lives in Canada is on xbox live but im the only one on his list so he spends most of the time talking about FM3:p...something along the lines of hey Uncle i just bought a Ferrari FXX or something...the kid is obsessed with FM3...if it isnt on xbox live bugging me...hes on the phone doing it.

Saying that my brother has made sure that everything is locked down on his 360...which i think is a great idea.

The stuff i've seen on things like UNO is insane and the webcam idea was bad for chatting, so block all that if you can, and yea no mic :P

We're just doing you a favour. If we didn't TK and teabag you the other team would do it twice as much!

Haha!that made me laugh.

As for the OP - just make sure you change the privacy setting to "friends only".That way nobody but her friends will be able to talk to or message her.
