Why don't OCUK host a lan party?

i'd be well up for this... theres not many games i play at a competetive level anymore though, but i dont mind getting served every now and then :p

Starcraft:Brood War anybody? :D

id deffinatly attend anywhere in the UK and dont mind paying my way towards it either. im sure a lot of people will think the same. Never been to a LAN Party though so wouldnt know where to start in organisation.

NERD ON! :D

What is so much better about lan than just getting a private server for mp and using ts?

Have you ever been to a Lan?

Being able to actually chat to people, make new freinds, enjoy sessions of Poker/Console/Pub Quiz, give away sponsorship and prizes, and again, actually chat to people.

If you'd rather sit behind a headset and broadband connection, that's fine.. but different people enjoy different things :)

Someone confirm a venue and I'm sure I'd be happy to start organising stuff. uv and Link might be convinced too ;)

I've still got most of my network gear from the fragM events so we'd be mostly sorted on that front.

You can use my shed in the back garden, granted it would probably be a little cramped were we all to go in there, and of course there's the problem of everyone having to travel over to Leitrim but there's plenty of power sockets and it's warm(ish) :)

I know it depends on numbers but roughly what size venue would we need?

Do you take deposits off people then look or just pick a venue that can hold X amount of people and price it accordingly?

I would go, depending how easier it was to get my pc to the venue using public transport. Joys of having no car

where would it be sited? I think the insurance would have something to say about it

Public liability insurance isn't that horrendous.. we had to have it for each of our Fragm events. Insurance, timetables, sponsorship, it's all fairly easy.. it's the venue that's the biggest hassle :)

What's the point of OcUK organising a LAN when there are other people out there who do it regularly and are far better suited to running such events.

If i-series isn't for you and you want a smaller, "funner" event, try epic.LAN, next main event is end of Feb :)
