Ginger Bells

The **** take I would get from dying my hair to avoid having the mickey taken would be even more than I get at the moment, not to mention it has to be done regularly

You honestly can't see why calling Chris Evans "a ginger knob" is less offensive than calling Barack Obama a ******? It has a completely different intent.

one is a choice of football team another is a physical attribute you cannot change

Being Muslim is a choice too.

Howcome I never saw this card? :(

In all seriousness it's stupid... so what if it's taking the proverbial out of ginger kids? Are they stopping fat people never appearing in Macdonals and Burger King adverts? No. it's just... stupid

Come on then make us a Christmas card that appeals to the large group of the population that likes"controversial " humour.

Without insulting/mocking or in anyway making it at the expense of anyone.
You find humiliating children at Christmas funny? It's not controversial, it's just nasty.

Aurgh!
What cards like this are doing is saying to kids thats its ok to single out anything about someones appearance in order to 'make fun'.
How is this still socially acceptable?
What is the 'ginger = bad' steriotype even based on?!
I hate stuff like this - perhaps the sort of people who make / send these cards are the closet racists / sexists who only have one 'pc' offensive outlet left. People of different culture / religion / coloured skin / sex is a no-go zone, so they're left with blone and ginger jokes. It's pathetic.

I don't have ginger hair. But if I did, and I was a child, I can see why a card like this would be upsetting.

1. religion is a choice.

2. hair colour can be changed.
You heard it here first. Ginger children should all dye their hair, otherwise Tefal will point, laugh and suggest they might not be loved.

please tell me why a closet racist would have friends of a different ethnicity to send such cards to?

If you where a racist wouldn't you just not have them on your Christmas card list?

Not my fault they have no soul.

And there we have it.

Once again the loudest cries are from people being offended on behalf of other people.

Are you suggesting that it's NOT offensive to tell a child that their appearance makes them in someway less-loveable?
I hope you never have kids :(

It's not just the christmas card - it's the 'ginger / blonde joke' acceptability in general!
Why can you post a picture of a 'the shame of having a ginger child' on a forum, where as (I hope) any picture that was racially offensive would be considered bad taste?!

What a load of politically correct bull****! Get a sense of ****ing humour!

I suppose the difference is that black people for a long time were persecuted because of their skin colour, Jews and Muslims killed on mass because of their beliefs.

Ginger's despite most people wanting to, so far having been massacred on any success level yet.

(That last bit is clearly a joke)

The main difference is racial insults are generally said with venom not in jest.

Ie lots of black comedians use ****** etc, and make fun of black people.

There's a big difference between a humerus remake made to a friend/audience you know will see it as humour and just randomly making fun of the darkies.

I have ginger hair, and I probably would have complained about this card, to be honest. As has been said in this thread, it doesn't matter what colour you use, it's still ignorant and it encourages children to think that it's OK to pick on people who are (irrelevantly) different.

To those who will, I'm sure, tell me to get a sense of humour - try having been me from the age of 10 until, well now really. I used to get picked on basically daily for having ginger hair, and it's so widely-acceptable to do it, that when it still happens today I still have to smile about it like it's no big thing. Well, when it used to make me cry every day because I couldn't understand why people were being so mean over my FREAKING HAIR COLOUR, you try having a sense of humour.

Not to the people it's being done to. It still makes my skin crawl when people make a deal out of my hair colour to my face. You may well think it's funny, and even make it in jest, but you've got to be aware of your audience and the potential consequences if you're trying to be funny. Would you make a dead baby joke to a woman recently-traumatised by a miscarriage?

To be honest I can't see the difference between taking the **** out of someone because of their skin or their hair colour.

I can see why the card would be deemed as highly offensive.

Above post kinda puts it in context.
