Right guys, hoping someone can give some advice as I'm very much a car n00b and I know a lot of you will say do it yourself, but I'm an absolute DIY disaster and when attempting things like this normally end making things worse and then paying more to get the worsened situation fixed, so quite happy to pay for someone to do this

I have a 2004 Scenic II and been advised that it's due a cambelt inspection and possible replacement. Rang up the renault dealership I bought this from, for inspection they want £103 and for replacement incl waterpump etc £385.
Does this seem reasonable or am I better ringing around ? Anybody with suggestions of non-Renault places to ring in Sidcup,Bexley area in kent ?

Thanks for any advice

that is pretty steep to be honest, ie not far behind the cost of a belt job on my audi s4

definately call around and then see if theyll price match

as well as the belt and the pump, there are usually tensioners and pulleys that need to eb replaced. its worthwhile making sure they are dont too to save having to payout again for it in the future

Don't go to renault stealers for work, they quoted me 1147 quid to change the AUX belt on a Grande epsace 3.0 DCI

any chance you could tell us what engine is in it?

go to an independent and buy the belts yerself, if and i do mean if its the same as my megane or similar in anyway yer looking at 4-5 hours labour at £40 not what you've been quoted, and what he hell is the price for inspection, tell them you dont want it inspected if you've done the required mileage you dont want it inspected you want it changed, end of.

I dont think many people would be daft enough to suggest a cambelt change as a DIY job to a n00b :)

As above though, it seems a bit on the steep side - ask around or look on the Good Garage Scheme website for decent local independents. I'd personally just get it changed and forget the inspection

It's a 2l Dynamique VVT Scenic and an automatic

Good garage scheme, I'll have a look, seems like what I'm after, thanks.
