No I don't condone union action like this in any regard.

Especially in the case of BA who have higher then market average wages, substantially so in many cases.

lol @ everyone who kills the planet

I'd justr like to clear one thing up.... How do you kill a planet other than by blowing it up or crashing another larger planet into it? You Can destroy the eco system but the planet will still remain.
Lets face it all you people trying to save the world are unnessesary as the planet will be here long after we're extinct!

Is that such a bad thing?

Survival of the fittest etc

It would be a complete disaster IMO
Unless other airlines vastly ramp up their UK flights. I don't know any figures but I would imagine the vast majority of flights to and from the UK and by BA or one of their partner airlines.

If other airlines have the capacity and capability to replace BA then it's not such a bad thing.

I find it humourous that at the moment 92% of people here disagree with the strike.

In their union meeting 92% of employees voted for the strike.

I disagree completely with their strike, the measures taken by BA to save money are necessary and not as harsh as they could be. Their pay isn't getting slashed just some of their work hours. They should be thankful BA didn't decide to lay off 20% of their staff. If this strike goes ahead it will cost the company so much they will probably have to.

Employees have as much responsibility to look out for the company as the management do. I agree with strikes when they are put under unfair conditions but this is not unfair conditions. Grow a pair, deal with the fewer hours and move on. Don't ruin christmas for millions of people.

To me, an airline striking at x-mas is an automatic no. When you take into consideration that they are currently the highest paid in the market and the rest of the BA staff have accepted paycuts/redundacies apart from the Cabin Crew, it makes it seem a bit like they're having a practical joke, it sounds that stupid.

I saw Channel 4 news a couple of nights ago where John Snow was giving the strike leader/Union guy a grilling about the industrial action.

To the question of the timing and the fact it had been purposely orchestrated to happen over Xmas, he tried to steer the question away each time he asked.

There is no point trying to turn it away, it's obvious to everyone they did so on purpose, why can't they at least have some credibility and come out and say that they did choose those dates to cause the most disruption, rather than just pretending that it just happened.

pft at best we'll damage the current ecosystem a new one will replace it in time :p

FWIW the union asked the CC if they wanted to strike, then went and announced a 12 day strike. How many CC actually want to strike for 12 days is unknown, but if the strike goes ahead I don't think it would be more than 24 - 48hrs.

He's a slimy old git, loved seeing them tear him to pieces on HIGNFY a few weeks back :D

If they was striking in a quiet period then yes but putting all those people out on purpose then no.
If the company is negotiating new contracts then they have the option of not signing them, simples.

The more people they inconvenience the more effect the strike action will have. I'm not sure why anyone is struggling with this.

I don't condone the action, but the Union planning it over xmas isn't what I struggle with.

I don't rate Unite though. In my experience they have only caused their members problems.

No, I mean ffs, of all the times of the year to do it, at Christmas, that's just not on. Obviously they choose that time of year to put additional pressure on BA to give in, but it just sickens me to their side of things, due to their actions there will be some families that wont be together over Christmas now.

Sack the lot of em tbh, plenty of people looking jobs at the minute.

No, it's simply unjust, if they don't want to agree to the terms, I'd gladly take their job!
Was meant to fly home on the 22nd but have now had to take a last minute flight with BMI, transferred my original flight to a later date though. Am a bit annoyed cause BA has always provided excellent service when I've flown with them. Am now 400£ out of pocket but my family is scraping the money together so I can afford to buy presents, thanks BA cabin Crew!

She works 6 months of the year and gets £25,000pa plus a generous pension and free/cheap flights etc. She has worked all her life for them so is on one of the best pay scales. £25k per annum for a part time job is too much in my opinion and they have had it too good for too long.
The company is in financial trouble and losing millions and needs to save money.

Would you rather have a reduced wage and working a bit harder or no job at all when the company folds? Or go work at Easyjet for about £17k per annum full time?.

What? Part time job? What makes it a part time job because she works a X on X off shift. They still do the required amount of hours just differently to someone doing a 9-5 mon-fri.

I work for 5 months per year by your reckoning I have a part time job.

And don't believe all the paper balls, Easyjet cabin crew are on more than £17k.

I can get exact figures when I go back to work but from conversations I have with them daily I know they are on more money than that.
