rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

The good people over at Bitterwallet.com asked the chart peoples if sub 40p purchases counted - and they said as long as its through the 'proper channels' ie: amazon, then purchases even 1p count towards chart sales.

-edit-
I should explain a bit better. This is because amazon is taking a personal hit on RATM and selling it for less, and making up the cost of each sale to the 40p required out of their own pockets.

could actually happen, spread the word wherever you can! Only down side about this is some interweb know it alls are claiming this song was chosen simply because the word "****" is used in it several times...

175,000 copies of rage vs. 110,000 copies of McElderry.

It went on sale today in my store I work at, I tried to sabotage it but failed. Also had to painstakingly show a customer where the CD was.

It didn't shift as many as expected according to people at work on music and video, however on Saturday, the Rage track will probably get annihilated with everyone doing their Xmas shopping on the last Saturday before Christmas day.

I asked in WH Smith if they sold it and they said they only had Joe's single! How unfair is that!

Not 5/4 any more.. 15/8, Joe's 4/9. That changed bloody quick.

Why would you even expect WH Smith to have it?

It's not really unfair, that was always going to happen when you pick a song released in 1992, nowhere will be stocking it as a single still unless they picked up on the campaign in the last week and ordered it in especially.

Yeah, they could have chosen something a bit more recent, like the new Alice In Chains album.

Missed a trick there, imo.

Bookmaker William Hill has suspended betting on the UK's Christmas number one after a flurry of bets made the betting "unviable".

Rage Against The Machine widened the gap over X Factor winner Joe McElderry in the battle for the top spot, building up a lead of more than 60,000 sales by Wednesday.

A William Hill spokesman said 98% of the bets were for the US rock band - and the firm had to keep adjusting the prices until it became the favourite.

Bets of up to £1,000 were being placed for the expletive-littered song and the company would lose a six-figure song if it tops Sunday's chart.

The Los Angeles band's track Killing In The Name - originally released in 1992 - and McElderry's song The Climb together account for nearly 300,000 sales so far this week.

The surprise contenders praised the internet campaign which has driven their sales and declared: "Let the people decide."

However, the situation could soon change with the release of a CD version of the 18-year-old X Factor star's single. Until Wednesday the track was only available on download but it is thought many people will buy the CD as a stocking filler.

I think someone's putting a lot of money on X-factor, I've never seen such a bizarrely volatile betting market in a long time.

12pm - XF 8/11, RATM 1/1
4pm - XF 1/2, RATM 6/4
4.30pm - XF 8/15, RATM 11/8
5.30pm - XF 4/9, RATM 6/4
6pm - XF 1/3, RATM 9/4.

Either that, or someone knows something we don't, in favour of the wrong side :(

Can betting orginizations get this sort of info? I would have thought that would be insider trading-ish?
