Hi there, I've got the missus a dslr for christmas but wanted a a decent book to help her get the most out of it. Are there any that you experts would recommend?

TIA :)

I was in the same boat recently and was advised to get a copy of Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson - it's a fantastic book that i'm sure would be very helpful :)

Couldn't agree more, great book and really shows you some good examples. Good for explaining the "why" behind it as well so you know the reasons to do something - great read.

Other book i got was a digital field guide for my 40D (well it came with it) which is really good as well but a bit more specialised than just a general read!

like everyone else, i can recommend Understanding Exposure, very easy to read.

i also bought The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby, really great book for beginners, ive also read a photoshop book he wrote, i like his style, it's light hearted and fun which helps :) . i have Vol.1, and intend on checking out the others in the series, there is at least 4 volumes.
