Your Top 5 Photos of 2009

Has been a strange year for me. Done a lot of stuff I wanted to do however didn't get out anywhere near as much as I wanted to. I'm new here but thought I would still share my 5 favourites from the year.

So, in no particular order....

1. This photo is an example of when working at Newcastle Airport had its advantages. Was the second day of the Sunderland Airshow and being the closest airport we had plenty traffic in and out all day. On returning for a refuel stop we were treated to a fly by and formation break.

2. I am thrilled with the way this shot came out. It was really tricky to get right and I must have had 4 or 5 attempts. Captures the feel of the place perfectly and always puts a big smile on my face when I look back through my photos.

3. I guess its not technically a brilliant shot but from my angle was a difficult one to get. Again, was really happy with how it turned out despite the terrible light provided by the scottish weather!

4. Getting difficult to choose now which ones I want to show you. I guess this photo was all about good timing. Lap after lap the car would throw a small flame out the back and lap after lap i missed it. So, i changed position and fortunately, i was handed a nice long flame to capture.

5. At last. There were 2 other contenders for the final place and if I'm honest, they were both technically better photographs. However, seeing as this is 'my favourite' 5 photos then this one makes it in. Was my first ever visit to London and I absolutely loved every minute of it. Took this on the final day before we left for home and is a constant reminder of an excellent couple of days we had there.

A self portrait, but was probably one of my most popular, and was actually one of the days from a lackluster year I actually decided to act upon one of my ideas..

I'm aspiring to acheive the levels of some of you guys, I just got my 450D this year - just need to keep practicing...........

(1) The Red Arrows, I like this one as it shows how they fly the displays with the leader concentrating on where he's going and his wingmen concentrating on their positioning from the leaders wing tips.

(2) This was taken with the misses's compact while I was out on Dartmoor, I like the textures and think it looks better with most of the colour taken out.

(3) We were feeding this horse polos hence the white froth.

(4) I don't know how I acheived the almost 3d depth of field in this shot, but it's one of my favourites because of it. The Deer were startled by a pheasent shoot in a nearby field.

(5) I've taken quite a few shots of the big cats at Dartmoor Zoo recently this is one of the ones that I'm pretty pleased with.

Thanks :)

The first three are with my 10D, the 4th with my friends 40D and the last with my 30D which I bought last month.

I'm really tempted to sell my 500D for a seconhand 40D/50D now after seeing them shots mate

Only got the 500D because of it doing HD Video, but I've never even used that feature

Some excellent photographs here, some really phenomenal stuff.

For me 2009 wasn't a great year for photography. I never got out anywhere near as much as I would have liked to. And when I did I rarely got inspired. I have lots of average stock photos and some good snaps, but nothing that really stands out this year. Will try to post before the year goes out.

I know how you feel. I had a look back through my own efforts for the year and could only find a couple which were half decent :(

Yeah, its not like I have nothing to show. I have some good photos. But nothing special. Nothing to put into my AAA portfolio.

The sensor in your 500D is 6 years more advanced than my 10D. Getting an xxD will not improve your photos on it's own.

I've not been photographing nearly as much as I would have hoped in 2009 for various reasons, need to get my finger out next year :)

Blimey there's some really tough acts to follow in here! Great photography guys! I clearly need to touch up my skills If I'm to catch up. Hopefully I'll step it up another gear in 2010 :)

This year for me has been a decidedly wintery theme for of my best photos. I won't put any descriptions, I'll let the pictures do the talking :) (any crits as always are welcome)

very impressive :)

There are some proper quality photos already in this thread. I'll lower the tone with some distinctly average snaps, despite taking thousands throughout the year.
