I've played this to death, can't stand "Empire" as it's set in a very dull era that I'm simply not interested in. Anyone got any suggestions for games similar to MTWII that I could give a shot? ;)

I was gonna pick up Medieval, but the offer expired. Still tempted by the complete pack for £14 on Steam, can't really understand why the vanilla and the expansion are £19.50 each on D2D

Oddly enough I was looking at Rome:TW on Steam a little while ago, love the Roman era but don't really want to lose too much graphically!

Shame they're wasting their time on drivel such as Empire, they could have done so much more with MTW III !

Rome is still very acceptable graphically, it doesn't look significantly worse than M2:TW, I think I prefer rome over medieval too.

I have it from a Steam offer but i've not really touched Alexander, Rome itself though i've played a lot.

The Total War style works very well with the Roman time period IMO.

I don't like any of the rome expansions to be entirely honest, just the vanilla.

I have Barb invasion, but I find it very hard and thus not that fun.

Alexander, I don't own it but I have tried it on release, it was also quite hard but I couldn't be bothered to play it longer than bout 30 minutes so I can't really tell.

I'd say buy the gold edition for a fiver ( in the NL several shops sell it for 5€, rome + barb invasion) and after that if you get bored of them try alexander.

Many people also swear by the total realism mod for rome, I can't say I've tried it though.

I didn't care much for the era either but enjoyed it.

although i played it before MTWII.

i suspect that would make me feel more limited in scope if i done it your way round. although it does have flaming pigs!!!

Anno 1404 is worth a look IMO. Didn't think I was going to like it but it keeps you interested.

EDIT: sorry, should say it's not turn based or and "epic" battle game but a good habitate, build, develop etc game.

Then don't moan about not being able to find an alternative, because it's obviously not the gameplay you're interested in. The Total War games have never been about the visuals, and likely never will be.

Third Age mod as Kenai already mentioned, still playing it and loving it - have hardly touched Empire since it came out :P

As above, catch up with the modding community.

Theres Arthur (excalibur?) the fantasy roleplaying game or whatever out. Maybe worth checking out some reviews (if you can find it). Someone posted it on here a few weeks ago.

I'm playing the Battle for wesnoth although turnbased its really good and free too!
