Bought my first game - Dragon Origins, and now thinking about upgrading my on board graphics card. Would a 5770 be ok or do I need something more like this:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [21162-00-50R]

Cheers everyone :)

Everybody is recommending a card without asking the most important question. What resolution are you playing at?

For your information, I game at 1680x1050 and my 3870 runs is fine so at that resolution a 5770 will be fine.

a 5770 would be more than enough, the 5850's are a bit overpriced. and 5770's crossfire very well if you wanted to add another in the future.

What is the rest of your system?

check on power connectors + capabilities, case restricitions and motherboard connectors.

The 5770 is a very capable card, I have one running my 1920x1080 TV and its great.

I was running the game well on high settings with a 4870 at 1920x1200, so a 5770 will do fine. Obviously if you can spare the extra cash for a 5850 then go for it, as you should be looking beyond the games that are currently out. DX11 games like Aliens Versus Predator will likely need more power than a 5770 can muster, at least to run it comfortably.

How much would you, comfortably, be willing to spend? With my 4870 512mb can run DA:O maxed with v-sync on and 4x anti aliasing at 1920x1080.

The 5770 would be fine though what is the spec of your pc? Cpu, etc?

Here's my build, although I swapped the psu for a corsair 650W and the motherboard is a ud3h not ud2h as stated. TBH don;t want to spend more thgan £150, less if possible:

Thats a good PSU. Recommend a 5770 again. If you are not too concerned about DX 11 then maybe a 4890 or a GTX 260. The last two are a bit faster but only support up to DX 10.

The 5770 alone can't handle DX11 at 1920x1200 with any sort of eye candy. If you plan to play DX11 games get a 5850 or xfire 2 5770's.

If you need nothing from DX11 go for a 4890.

You could save £50 from getting a £80 case like the Lancool Dragonlord, which would push your £150 budget for the graphic card up to £200. Very nearly enough for a 5850.

I don't find the game crazy demanding. I am running it on a 4890 and am getting 80-90fps with 4xAA at 2048x1152, max details

I've had it running maxed out at 1920x1200 on my Geforce 8800 GTS (512mb). :D

Get an ATI 4890 ;) instead of a 5770 because the 4890 is faster plus the 5770 may have DX11 but donst have the power to run any games that will use DX11 proper
