Area location when buying a nicer car?

Hey all, i've always wondered this, and i've never really seen people talk about it, as it's something i've thought about i'd figure i'd ask, for those of you that may be in an area that may mean your nice shiny new car may get keyed, stolen, damaged or whatever else, do you let the areas reputation stop you from buying that car you really want? or make you think twice? or do you just ensure it's kept securely and safely? as sometimes I end up imagining how nice it'd to own a really nice car, but then I start to think, "well what if this happens to it..." etc haha :p, but I just wondered on what the balance is between people here

My problem is at the supermarket, I have to park well away right at the back of the car park away from other cars cause people are so careless and swing doors into other peoples cars

If you live in a crap enough area, you don't even need a nice car! I used to park my first 205 down at the end of the road, closer to the 'rough' part of the estate (but away from the masses of trees outside my house, so I don't end up with loads of bird droppings on my car!). The local chavs laid right into it, mostly by adding mysterious dents and scratches. Yes, on a £700 Peugeot .

I refuse to take my own car shopping if I'm going to be visiting at busy hours. Having someone leave a massive dent in my front wing (presumably where they failed at parking) put me off of that idea for good.

Yeh thats true, shopping car parks seem the worst place for it, I often hear of people trying to park in an empty area to avoid the shopping trolleys hitting their cars etc, and yeh, no one needs a nice car of course, but it's just nice knowing that you can buy one, and not have to worry about other people around it, it's not a terrible area, but it's a very Ford Fiesta/Mondeo area, not that anythings wrong with that, but a nicer car would stick out a lil bit, I think haha :p

I have to admit I was very anxious leaving my car in some of the suburbs of Liverpool when I was driving to various pubs there last night. Wouldn't want it to be there all the time.

As long as you live near other people, there will always be ****s who only want to cause harm. The only way you can be safer is to garage the car.

What the hell is a scutty place???? :p

A scutty is a dirty person that usually lives on a council estate. but not everyone who lives on a council estate is scutty, its not that they are poor it is the lack of washing and how they talk and how they treat others that we all hate.

Thanks Urban Dictionary :)

I seem to worry slightly more with each new car that I get. Punto - Not worried at all. Astra - very little concern either as it's bland but I kept it shiny. MR2 - Bit of concern when I park in more of a dodgy area as it stands out a bit more, but it's not been washed for a bit so looks somewhat grubby and is a cheapish car. If I owned a really nice car, I'd probabaly want to buy a cheap barge as well.

I try not to worry too much, I take the stereo faceplate off & make sure nothing is on view when parking anywhere slightly dodgy but that's it really. I'd be gutted if I found my car had been keyed, but I bought the car to use it at the end of the day.

I am very worried about this and when I go to my car in daytime I pretty much always look around for new damage and remember who it was who parked next to me. I never park it in dodgy places and when I do I make sure I can keep an eye on it. I also make sure I leave an extra lot of space between me and the cars alongside me, so there's less chance they ram their door into mine, also when I have the choice, I never park at another car's drivers side unless it's a well looked after and luxury or drivers car ( I do not trust brand new city car euromobile drivers, the ones who don't care about driving and cars). If possible I park it alongside a tidy old or classic car. Near uni there's a residential flat where one guy has a mint condition oldtimer merc, I always park next to him as I barely see him ever move his car and I trust drivers like that won't ram their door into my car. I avoid parking near neighbors with children too.

If I ever move out to somewhere, a good secure garage is a must, the first priority after a fast fiber internet connection...

Its not too bad.. I've got a bright red Leon FR and touch wood that hasn't been touched at all in Liverpool and I currently don't live in the best of places and park on the road. I wouldn't want to leave it round the likes of Kenny/Croxteth/Norris Green though! :)

Have just bought a house in a nice area now though and will have a driveway so its a lot better! :)

I am wary in car parks though, I always try to park away from other people or next to nice shiny expensive cars..

I don't mind during the day, it was just parking it in pub car parks at night that made me a bit nervous. Plus a black 200sx with gold wheels stands out a bit :p.

Was in Gateacre and Woolton though so a pretty nice area really.

Thats one of the big advantages to buying a normal hatchback type car instead of something more flash like a Coupe, they just blend in :)

The thing with parking away from other cars in car parks though is that you seem to act like a magnet for other cars. Since getting my latest car I have begun to activley try and park well away from the risk of people either banging their doors into my car or, as happened with my last car around a month after I bought it, simply driving into the side then driving off leaving no insurance details. It seems nearly always that having left my car on it's lonesome in some dark corner of the car park upon my return people have parked either side of it.

I don't get this whole spending 5p on a house then £20000 on a car, I wouldn't bother buying a car until I could get in a decent area. But so many people seem to do it round here.
Priorities for me and the car will get ****ed in a rough area, so no, i would buy a banger and a cricket bat to batter the local car scratching scum.
