Apple 'won't repair machines belonging to smokers'

Having worked inside smokers PCs, I can vouch first hand that it's disgusting. Yellow crap builds up and sticks to everything mixed with dust, makes them a lot harder to clean well. When I get one into the workshop and power it up, you can immediately smell it, which is unpleasant to a non-smoker.

However, it doesn't bother me a massive amount, they still pay for the work as well as anyone else.

I can imagine this being some more H&S BS though. God I resent H&S.
 
My boss always says if Apple were the same size as Microsoft theyd be far worse. Its not hard to see why. They love to steamroll over their customers.

And yet people still love their products. I've tried them and I just don't like their stuff, seems all show no go to me, though that's a whole other area of debate and opinion.

Many Apple's products are as much religion as real product.

For example their hyped iPhone lacks 900MHz UMTS support so it will never be capable to fast data connections in most of the Finland (what's the point of smart phone if it lacks connectivity?) but still there are reviewers who never keep that as huge minus or even mention it.
And you can bet your *** that if it were Nokia which was missing that then they would be keeping public lynching!

Indeed, the reason why I still have an E71 and not an iphone like the rest of my family. That and I'd rather spend the hundreds of pounds I saved on something else.

people who aparently fix a lot of pcs saying they clean the tar of with clothes , windowlene etc.

i bet they never even went near a pc because i doubt it would surive.

i used to be a smoker and you would never be able to tell from the inside of any of my old pcs.

only really heavy smokers cover everything in tar and stink
 
I despise working with smokers PCs, it's truly disgusting, but that doesn't mean I'm going to refuse to do it...

Can't say I'm surprised that Apple of all people are doing it
 
Yes, they are disgusting, I make the effort to completely clean them before working on them or I just end up feeling ill for the day.

EDIT: Should point out that this is only people who don't look after their PC's anyway, but I can tolerate dust, but smoker PCs have a lot more than just dust in them
 
this is utter BS. what is dust I ask you? dust = among other things human skin. is touching dead old human skin on components any more gross than touching smoke-affected components? no! the whole thing is daft.

i smoke next to my PC all the time and it never looks like it or smells nasty inside. these people must not clean their rooms or even use fans on their cases....

Let's get some perspective here. I worked for Apple for 18 months and I saw the Genius team refuse to work on ONE machine.

The guy that refused it was a smoker himself - the machine was completely repugnant inside. It was covered in a layer of slime. It was absolutely disgusting - I smoke and I wouldn't have worked on it either.
