Family guy - TV vs DVD

So a while back I bought a few series of Family guy on DVD, a program I love, and I'm shocked at the level of censorship the Beeb impose on this program (which I'll ad is broadcast well after the watershed!). What are the BBC playing at, these are cartoons ffs, and there's far far worse available on TV at that time for kids to accidentally tune into.

As this thread is really about censorship and not "TV" I though it belonged in here.

I thought that it was already censored because it is censored for American TV. The BBC just buys the same episode that gets shown on American TV?
 
Yep, there's a massive amount cut, even at past 23:00 at night! Shocking really, no need for it in today's times.

Also, the amount of censorship of Scrubs on E4 through the day is silly. They cut entire scenes/flashbacks so that the jokes then make no sense. Most aren't even that bad!
 
Years ago I bought the 'Bottom' BBC VHS videos. I had a full set and this was when a single VHS cost about £12.99 and a double about £19.99 :eek:. I used to watch them quite a bit and so knew the scenes/script quite well. I once started watching an episode on UK gold by accident and was far from impressed when I realised there were full scenes cut out of the VHS but shown on TV.

OP: I would guess that they censor them to get a lower age rating and sell more copies that way (with it being a cartoon). It's a bit like releasing an 18 rated Wii game. A huge % of people interested in it would be too young to buy it.

Well I'm watching "Stewie kills Lois"

And there's one bit in it where Stewie is planning to get revenge on Lois and this is from the DVD version:

Brian "What you doing" [Stewie dags a cart full of chainsaws / nailed through baseball bats in to the lounge)
Stewie "I'll teach that hussy to go on a boat ride without me, when she returns I'm going to put bamboo splinters under all her fingernails and I'm gunna strip her down and tie her to the bed"
Brian "Okay"
Stewie "Then I'm gunna make her crawl on her hands and knees while I drip hot candle wax over her back"
Brian "Okay and then what are you going to do"
Stewie "Lets see,

family guy is written for dvd and then cut for tv, the dvd eps aren't available for tv stations to buy.

why have you b een watching tv rips?

All of the first 7 series have been released on dvd and most places have full uncensored dvd rips up :confused:

I'm more than certain that the matter of cutting and censorship has been discussed on the dvd commentaries, I'm sure Seth McFarlane has said that they are written for dvd and cut by the networks.

Not really, because it depends which tv channel it's been ripped from. Iirc the Adult Swim broadcasts are uncut, possibly also FX/TBS
