Crap MPG winter time

Is my car broken? I drive with the same style I do in the summer than I do in the winter.

Winter gives me 360/370 miles to the tank.
Summer gives me 400/410 miles to the tank.

In the summer, the air con is on. In the winter, the heaters are on.

Do the heaters take more fuel than the air con? :(

I hope I get an extra 40 miles to the tank in the summer ;)

My economy is down. The fiesta takes ages to warm up and I can just see the meter dropping while its not up to temperature.

Add that to lights and heated windscreens, and its no real surprise.

I think my poorish MPG is more attributed to having the roof down all the time. Does take ages to warm up though.

Apparently the diesel focus (current shape) was only doing 22mpg when I drove back from the station in 0.5C. Its only 5 minute drive so doesn't really get a chance to warm up.

i swear the car felt quicker last night. was out and about at 2am, it was -7C. it just felt quicker, but it could be because i've been trundling along at 30mph all week :p

I just did a 3 hour trip from London to Manchester last night, fairly empty roads. Averaged 68mph and 27mpg :( Only a 2.0 Auto Cmax too :(

I get the same, 550 miles to £53. But i do find the car seems more eager the colder it is, so the more likely it is ill put my foot down.

Pretty much same here, all summer to work and back was about 40mpg, now seeing 36ish, just one of those other bumming facts about winter!

550 miles to only £53

How can it be possible to get so many miles to only £53

my 2L calibra only does about 17mpg in the winter (about 21mpg in summer) :(

I went for a nice drive last night in the heavy snow.

I didn't seem to use much fuel at all. Mainly because I never ever revved over 1500rpm and I was just coasting/sliding across the road making few alterations with the loud pedal.

I have noticed this over the last few weeks too in my 2005 Civic Type R. I usually fill her up every 5 days (do very regular miles to work and back) but at the moment, I am needing to do it every 4 days. It is due a service too, which may be related
