Apple Mac Mini 2.26 info

I've been using a Mac Mini connected to my plasma downstairs as a media pc since they very first come out. Looks good, makes no noise and I'm currently on my second one which is an older spec 2ghz model with only 2gig ram. Still does all media/web tasks just fine. Even edited a couple of 1280x720 movies on iMovie 09 with it, no problems.

See lots of people using a Mini as a media centre. What i want to do is use one as my main pc. Plus run win7 in dual boot.

One thing I'd point out, and this is my main sticking point in why I use PCs and Macs at home, is that you won't be able to change the CPU or GPU (well actually I know that the early 2009 CPU is soldered to the motherboard and I'd guess the late 2009 is too).
You could in 12 months time change the hard-drive, change the RAM, change the optical... but the CPU and GPU you're stuck with. So I'd say get the fastest processor you can stretch to now and then look at upgrading the HDD/RAM in 12 months time.

All the 2009 Mac mini's have the same identifier "macmini3,1" so the hardware is the same apart from the speed bump. Any significant change would have resulted in the 3,2.

Just wanted to make sure it would be good as an everyday computer before i bought one.

Not sure how 'legal' this is but i have noticed that there are versions out there of Apple OS put together by people to run on a PC.

It is indeed possible and I personally would consider it ok as-long as you have bought a legitimate license for the Operating System, however the Apple software License does not allow Mac OS X to be used on hardware that is not "Apple Branded".
http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx106.pdf said:
Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, unless you have purchased a Family Pack or Upgrade license for the Apple Software, you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so.

Consequently, as per the sticky, we are not allowed to talk about Hackintosh, OSx86 or anything similar here on OcUK.
