Guys i have spend over 3 months looking/waiting for a secondhand ford fiesta diesel to come up forsale with no luck....

Can you guys spec me some other small diesel cars with good MPG (60+) that are about the same size as a fiesta ??

Trip to the mainland?
Thats what i been thinking of doing if i haven't found anything i want in the next 2 to 3 months..

Just a little bit unsure on how i would be able to get around (transport) to see the cars if i went to the mainland

Diesel makes sense in bigger cars, but I really fail to see the point in smaller cars - a 1.25 petrol will still do 40mpg on cheaper fuel

Fiesta 1.4 diesel should give about 45mpg on this island..a petrol 1.25 would give about 30mpg..

The MPG we get are far far lower then what you mainland guys get...

I dont see why it should be any lower than on the mainland?
Short trips , no striaghts longer then 1/4mile , traffic lights about every 1/2mile , loads of stop/start traffic/driving etc etc

I guess it be something like driving around london in rush hour traffic ;)

35mph limit, i feel sorry for all the cars, they must suffer really bad wear!
Yes they can suffer really bad wear..but not from are 35mph limit...

Most UK mainland cars clocks up a lot of it miles from driving down motorways and long A roads etc..
Where most guernsey cars clocks up most it miles from doing 1.5 to 3mile short trips in stop/start traffic..

The shorter journeys are going to wear the engine, gearbox and things a lot more though. I think I would actually get a smart car or something if the max speed was 35.

Car never warming up, things like the exhaust rust from the inside out, HGF failure sludge, oil never gets upto temp so engine parts wear faster, gearbox and clutch will wear quicker.

But anyhows, i would take a trip over to the mainland asap, loads of what you want over here, would you get done for import duty?
