Hi all,

Im trying to install a Noctua NH-U12P onto an ASUS P6TD Deluxe mainboard, and I am just wondering which orientation to place the heatsink in, and how best to arrange/use the fans (one of which is pre-attached to the heatsink)?

My case is an Antec 902 btw.

Hope someone can help or give some advice as searching and googling isn't producing any solid answers.

Thank you!

Out the rear case fan is the normal approach, but if you have the top fan set as an exhaust this can work as well, though you will have to check that the cooler wont block any of your memory slots if oriented to exhaust out the top.

I think blowing out towards the rear is best.

The case is going to be "enclosed" in a ducket in my desk, kinda 'housed' u could say. So i think the top exhaust option is not going to be so great as there is more room at the back. So will go with this orientation i think.

Any way to tell which way I should connect the 2nd fan? ie; to the noctua or to the case? (and how do i tell which way around to put it?)

I assume the fan connected to the noctua already (as stock) is set to push air through the heatsink from right to left? Im a bit lost with these fans tbh

Assuming tha your wanting to use dual fans mounted on the noctua in a push/pull config, it should look like this.

The fan closest to the ram is the push fan, the pull fan should be mounted on the opposite side with the label side facing the rear of the cooler, the fans should have arrows on the side indicating direction of rotation and airflow.

I think its a big mistake to enclose the case in a desk especially with a gtx 280 giving off all that heat,is there no way you can find room on top of your desk?

So based on your second picture the arrows should all be pointing to the left yeah? ie - towards the back of the case and out?

Yep mate, all fans will be spinning anticlockwise pushing the air out to the rear. Another way of putting it is, if i lifted the rear cooler fan up a bit, youd see the same blue on black label facing the same direction as the front fan and the rear case fan.

great - thank you!!!

...any tips on getting these screws in for the mounting brackets on the heatsink, tiny lil buggers and very tough. They dont seem to be sitting flush

Id try screwing one in a few turns, then doing the one diagonally opposite, repeat this procedure for the other screws, im afraid i have limited experience with the noctua heatsink as i only tried one once quite a while ago.
